Hi,
My horse is kept at a livery yard, and is on full livery Mon - Fri, I have been a livery there for 12 years and the horse I have now has been there for approaching 9 years (
).
I get on well with the YO and she has always been quite strict as to how things are done at the yard, which she needs to be as there are about 40 horses there.
We probably have about 10 kids at the yard and during the dark winter months YO asks me not to ride between the hours of 4pm and 6pm (sometimes I can get out of work during the day) so that it gives the kids a chance to exercise their ponies and get done before the adults get down after work. I see this as being pretty reasonable so I don't mind.
The rules on booking our school for lessons are quite clear, no lessons between 3pm and 8pm on a weekday so that everyone has access to ride. Now I know that this means if kids want a lesson then they are going to be home late but they are the rules and if it doesn't work for them then they should look for another yard.
So I check the calendar today and the YO has given one of the kids permission to book a lesson every Tuesday night at 7pm from now until Christmas. Shortly our fields will be closed and the horses will be in 24/7 so I have to have access to the school to work my horse otherwise he doesn't take kindly to being in. And most of the time I can't get there on a work day until after 6.30 so therefore I use the school from 7pm til 8pm.
Now, I fit in around the kids so I don't see why they should take my riding time away from me.
Do you think I'm being unreasonable?
