My mares live out on grass livery at a medium sized livery yard. I turned up last week for the daily check and feed (both are TB's and fed daily) to find another livery had placed a lick in the field. No notice to anyone, I went over and to have a look as my two were standing right by it biting big chunks out of it. I got a bit closer and saw it was one that had been a hand made one it seems into a tub as the tub had no contents or ingrediants on it. I took it out of the field and texted another livery, who I got the reply to 'No - I know nothing about it'.
Just after that another livery arrived and was turning her mare out. She then asked why the lick was removed as she wanted it back in the field. I asked where it came from to be told it was 'Home made and contained a mixture of herbs and minerals that was necessary for ALL the horses'. I asked what herbs and other things had been added as one of my mares is a walking sick note with a list as long as your arm with allergies. She named some of the ingrediants and it did in fact contain some things which SN is allergic to. Because of this I don't want the lick back in the field, SN mare is top dog so will hog the lick and the others won't get a look in.
Livery has now moaned and groaned about the fact it SHOULD be in the field it's NECESSARY and now as my mare is allergic I should pay for all the ingrediants and her time in making it up.
I refuse as a) I never wanted a lick in there in the first place, but if she wants to put a branded salt one then no worries.
b) I didn't ask for one so why should I fork out £10 to her for her homemade special one ?
Other liveries don't care one bit, there is plenty of feed out in the field. YO won't get invovled and doesn't care either.
Am I being over the top and unreasonable about this ?
