Hi I hope someone can advise me.

I am taking my horse to our first ever competition/dressage next week. I had initially bought a navy jacket (quite dark) as I already had beige breeches, but after trying it all on I'm not sure it's the 'correct' attire?

Would I be better swapping it for a black one? I can easily get some white jods.

I really want to make a good first impression as well as have something correct that I can continue to wear should I have enough guts/dignity left to go again.

Not sure if it makes a difference but my gelding is a very dark seal brown but goes a lot lighter in patches in summer. I feel so silly! !

A navy jacket is absolutely fine for dressage. It's what I have, many people prefer navy as it's less 'harsh' than black.
If in doubt, many dressage competitions are run under BD rules which you can check on the BD website.

Navy is fine with either the beige breeches you have or white ones, tweed is also perfectly correct with the beige, black is rather harsh and rarely worn so there is no reason for you to go out and buy another jacket, do you have a cream or white stock to wear with it?

In all honesty it is how the horse goes that will be most noticed by everyone as long as you are smart and the horse is as tidy as possible you should relax and try not to worry too much, there will be other people equally concerned about what they are doing/ wearing they will all be trying as hard as you to pretend it is an everyday occurrence, everyone has to start somewhere.

Navy jacket is fine (I think it says something about "any conservative colour", or maybe it used to say that? ), and beige breeches are also fine. I think beige is more flattering than white, unless your legs are perfect! :D
