Am I crazy?

DH and will be moving to new digs next spring. New place will be a spacious townhouse, with a garden, in Brooklyn. It'll be much like living in an outer London borough--nice and quiet, leafy, with a gigantic park on the doorstep

But here's the nutso bit...

We are defintely planning on a second dog, hopefully to be added next spring. He will be a CKCS under the smexxxy name of Trevor

All fine, right? Well, DH and I are also keen to start a family in Spring '09.

Would I be crazy to add a puppy and potentially a baby in quickish succession? Has anyone ever found themselves in a similar situation?

NB I am planning to take a year off work, and we also have a superb dog walker/sitter.
 
I have 4 dogs and 4 kids.....I had the first puppy & baby at the same time (dog in May, baby in July). By the November I had rescued a 2nd dog.....another baby, another dog, another baby, another dog.....then another baby, and lost one dog unfortunately, but have just got a puppy!!

My house is never peaceful, but its just the way I like it!!!
 
If you think you can cope with both then why not?

Mum and dad had 4 dogs when I was born and got a 5th whilst I was still small. My nana told her the dogs would have to go - not a chance! Mum used to take 5 dogs out walking here, there and everywhere with me in my pushchair!

I do think I can cope, but I wanted to hear some horror stories first, if only to absorb and brace myself.

The idea of being surrounded my lots of animals--and one child, maybe two--has grown in huge appeal over the last few months. Guess this is what they call broodiness

Seriously though, if you want to do the baby/puppy thing then you couldnt ask for an easier breed to fit in with the baby

ETS - mind you I suppose dog showing cant be all bad, Mum has been asked to judge in New Zealand now so I might get to go with her

I would *love* another BT, but two BTs together is a crazy affair. When Stella gets together with Catfish, they play tug of war for hours, and chomp on each other's faces; she only plays like that with other BTs. Given her snazzy glass eye, I think it'll be good to have a breed that, while playful, is a little less boisterous and bully. BTs are fantastic with kids, and my opinion is that CKCS are on the same patient wavelength.

There's a club show in NJ in October, which we'll be attending to meet some local breeders. I have my heart set on a black and tan, but health etc. is more important, I know.

You must post pictures of some of your mother's pups--I'd love to see them.
