If your horse is not bothered by the flies dont worry. The flies at our yard are horrendous
I bring my horse in during the day to get away from them, and he does wear a mask when hes out. I prefer to bring in rather than rug or keep spraying chemicals on him !

I wouldn't say they are the devils work My horse had Uevitis and had to wear a guardian mask, otherwise he would have to be confined to a blacked out stable. Mine was a life saver, don't know what I would have done without it.

I hadnt really considered that some horses do actually need them, my mistake. I'm just not a fan day today just for flies, I have used fly fringes in the past though!

Our horses tend to stand head to tail when dozing, so the tail swishing clears the flies from their faces!

gosh i wonder how all those horses and ponies coped in the years before full flymasks i've never used anything just because 'everyone else has', one of mine hates the noise of the velcro when you take the mask off, he's the only one that would benefit from a mask as he seems to be a real fly magnet and they do irritate his eyes, today he is wearing a nice pink fringe because it was the only one to hand

my mare has to wear her fly rug as she has mild sweet itch. if she doesn't wear her mask she's swarmed by fly's on her face and if she doesn't wear her rug she gets very agitated! But her fly rug is Amigo and super lightweight so she doesn't get too hot under it. Ideally i'd like her to have a boett

MY little QH x does wear one when its a bit cooler, he hates the flies. They are out at night at the moment but its hot now when they go out and he is a hot horse , so when this hot ,i don't put one one .He does wear a fly hood as the cashel ones are brilliant , and I hate the idea of flies landing on dirt one minute and going into my boys eyes the next. He does have to wear a head collar onto as the git does rub it off sometimes.

My donkey gets fly strike so needs one , My mare has to as she has staphaureus. And rubs her mane out so she does wear one unless its mega hot. She is on box rest at moment so not wearing one obviously .

My mare also wears a guardian mask for Uviitus
