My mare has now been on box rest for just over two weeks, she's been doing really well on one bute twice a day (she was on two twice a day initially) i tried to cut it down to 1/2 twice a day yesterday and this morning she was lame again, i've put it back upto one this morning.

Just feeling a bit fed up!! She's being xrayed on wed's so guess i'll find out more then. This is the first time i've had a laminitic and she's 24yrs old and has never had it! xxx

A friends 29yo pony had Lami for the 1st time last year, and was on box rest for about 8 weeks and was touch and go as to whether she was going to be PTS or not. She is now sound as a bell and being ridden again. Good luck. xxx

Yep keep the bute at the dosage she is comfortable at.

Hopefully, there will be good news on Wednesday.

Fingers crossed for you

Please Please don't make the mistake of letting her out too soon. Let her lie down as much as possible on a deep bed. Don't even get her out to muck out. The longer she is in the better she will make a full recovery.

Two weeks is nothing, 6/8 weeks + is more like it.
Hope she gets better soon . good luck.

My friend's pony was on solid box rest for two months. It took her a LONG time to even start to get better (didn't help that numpty "expert" giving the novice owner advice was telling her to force her to walk and to let her have grass each day...

) She's now out 24/7 with no bute, very little grass, ad-lib well-soaked hay and a foot supplement after almost three months.
It takes a VERY long time and whatever you do, as jakesmydog said, please please don't rush anything - leave her on total box rest on a very deep shavings bed with ad-lib well-soaked hay for as long as humanly possible. Box rest stinks, but it does help

Thanks, she is on a really deep shavings bed and i'm not getting her out of the stable at all. Luckily she is very good and even when i open the stable door and go to get something she's not trying to come out.

She was much better tonight after her extra bute and digital pulse gone again so i feel happier. I know it's going to take a long time for her to re-cover it's just so easy to get disheartened. Fingers crossed for xrays on wed's xx

I agree 100% with Jakesmydog ..... keep her on the thick shavings and do not let her out, unless being looked at by the Vet or the Farrier, but if they can see her in the box then that is better .... keep up the Bute as that will help her sooooo much and the more she lays down the better for her. It is heartbreaking to see her in pain but give her all the love and attention she needs, but MOST of all time .... do not hurry things along ...

As she is 24, it may be Cushings induced Laminitis, which is more of a worry and therefore the sooner they get her on Pergolide the better ( it would not hurt her even it she hasn't IMO) ...... what other symptons does she have?

Did she shed her coat late?
Has her oribital sockets disappeared ... above her eyes?
Does she drink more?
Did you see any curlyness in her coat in the winter?

Do not let them do a Dextrose test on her as this could trigger off another attack .... mine was diagnosed by clinical signs only ..... and he is still doing fine nearly 3 years on (but it was hard work!)

PM me if you want as I like many others care so very much
