5 year old gelding
15.2 ish lightweight
approx 450kg

Ridden 5-6 times a week for 30 minutes

Daily gets -
3 flakes of hay
1 scoop of hifi equivilent chaff
1/2 scoop alfa-a oil

How does this compare to what others are feeding to horses of similar built and work etc?

thanks :)

I don't think mine would be getting quite so much but then I don't know what one of your scoops are. Ours would be out 24/7 still anyway this time of year but as my sister's is on box rest mine is coming in at night to keep hers company and he is on 3 slices of hay and a token amount of calm and condition nuts - ie not quite a full small scoop (plus a few carrots at the mo). However, he has 'conveniently' decided to be lame too now so he's not actually doing any work!

I guess a lot depends on the type of horse and whether they keep weight on well or not and how much grass they've got. If he looks well and is working well then i would say your feeding's fine. I don't think there's any exact science as all horses are different. If you're happy then that's ok.

My boys on less than that! 5yo 16.2 med weight, 550kg approx, worked 6 days a week 45 mins+ gets one haynet at night and small hanfull of mix, fibre nuts, chaff and oats with his sups, out for 6-8hrs a day on grass with a muzzle!! Yes he is fat hence the diet!!

Mine is about 15.1 (not measured yet) and is built like a TbX (wouldn't call her light weight as such, she's def got some Connie in her)
she was weighed on a weigh bridge today and weighs 475kg and it was commented on how good she looks, by quite a few pepeople.
She's feed, a large haynet at night out during the day on fairly sparse grass.
Hard food, 1 scoop of top spec cool condtion cubes and top spec balancer am and pm, she is a good-doer but I feed her condtioning flakes to keep her weight on as she is going to be hunting a fair bit this season.

Mines out 24/7 and gets one small scoop of c&c, chaf and 1/2 small scoop of cool mix. She's normally ridden 6 times a week - schooled once for 30 mins & hacked the rest for 40mins x5 & 1.5-2 hrs x2. She's a tb so trying to get the weight on for winter.
