Is it just me or are some horses seriously overpriced!! I like to have a nosey on the "inter-ma-google" now and again, and am rather shocked at some of the prices!! Especially youngsters which have done nothing!! For example; http://www.horseabout.com/index.php?option=com_adsmanager&page=show_ad&adid=3471&catid=12&Itemid=78 This one has been up since about Oct -Nov, I was debating viewng it in jan but felt at 3800 was to much but it seems to have increased in price and still the same as before!! Example num 2; http://www.horseabout.com/index.php?option=com_adsmanager&page=show_ad&adid=3580&catid=10&Itemid=78 ... I personally wouldnt pay it due to the fact i bought a lovely mare by the same stallion for 1500 cheaper!! Weather i was lucky or not i dont know :p ... Now example num 3; http://www.horseabout.com/index.php?option=com_adsmanager&page=show_ad&adid=3466&catid=10&Itemid=78 ... Well priced imo, if not slightly underpriced!!
So am i just tight fisted or does anyone think some horses are overpriced?!!

Hmmmm, well im away to try and convince myself to have a lesson tomorrow as i havent had one in years :p Lessons scare me :o

I agree with you. Went to see horse today 15 years never done any PC /sponsored ride/SJ etc been lame(ok so that happens to any but only found out when I was there)..suffers skin problems/ sl.head shy/nappy £2.5K no tack, wasnt what I was told it was. Small child rides it appaerently. Supposed to be private sale..not so sure! Could I get a land line number from these people no!

If I read another advert with SAD SALE, the jargon in the adverts is sounding a very common theme.

It sounded just what I wanted worth its weight in gold. NOT

I am adverted out! Nice simple ad will do.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!.. I have been looking for a nice a little chap for 4 months but everything I have seen is not as advertised. I wouldn't mind but each time I have called the owners several times to discuss my needs and to find out any niggles etc..Don't know why sellers aren't truthful when asked a direct question, nothing is perfect but there are some things you can't compromise on.

I think I have found the right one for me (waiting for him to be vetted) but have had to raise my budget and widen my search area.

Wouldn't mind so much but not looking for anything flash or super special, just a nice small, safe fun horse to hack around on and enjoy local shows and fun rides.

Good luck with your search, you'll get there.

Well atleast im not crazy :p My friends selling a wee 10yr RC horse atm, very well priced. Shes had alot of beginners/nervous people (wont go out of walk nervous) which just isnt any good for him but she has a few people coming to see him this week so fingers and toes crossed for her :D Hmmm maybe i should sell my mare for an obsene amount, as she does everything like example num 2 up there :p lol

I agree with your post OP, prices do seem to have shot up on the whole, eventhough a lot of horses aren't selling that well. Also agree with Diddydavies about not being quite as they are advertised when seen in the flesh - see my thread on 'genuine horses'!

Totally agree, way over priced!

Do people just pluck a figure out if the air?

If I was to sell one of my boys (never but just saying)
Then maybe I should take their advice, he must be with loads more than I thought!

Youngsters that have done nothing? IMO at 4yrs old you can still sell 'potential'. Once they are 5 or 6 and have 'done nothing' then that is a different ball game. You should see some of the prices that foals in Germany fetch at the elite auctions!!!! You cannot expect an owner to sell a horse with an awful lot of potential for peanuts just because it hasn't any competition mileage otherwise what would be the point of using good breeding stock to breed better quality horses. I will add that I am not commenting on the horses in the ads but on youngsters generally. A horses worth is something which cannot be quantified accurately. It is what someone is prepared to pay for it. There are people out there that would buy something that was expensive just to say 'I paid ????k for my horse'. Usually people with too much cash and no taste or knowledge :-)

It really annoys me when people say "stunning", and put up a picture of it lying in its stable with a rug on! I was interested in one horse, but the picture showed it standing like an old elephant, I asked for a few more shots, they said, no camera! I persevered as it sounded great, but after about three phone calls I gave up, obviously this youngster with County Show potential only had three good legs, and the picture was actually a true representation.

If they are good, they go for a good amount which is fair.

As for the I only want to do PC, bit of dressage and novice jumping club, that also want a good looking horse that's 100% in traffic, well schooled, sane and safe out hacking alone and in company, try to remember that it takes a lot of damm hard work, patence and time to make such a horse which although it is enjoyable to do so, once done, no-one is going to just give it away.

Sadly the timewasters seem to be multiplying. We did a preliminary viewing (70 miles away) for someone, arranged vetting, agreed price and transport, then buyer sent text to say they had done their sums and couldnt afford to keep a horse...... So, next time we will be less helpful.

Lol i suppose i shouldnt have used the phrase "have done nothing!" As tbh at 4 i wouldnt expect it to have a comp record!! I have a 4yr (as i said in OP half sister to second link) and if using my own phrase "has done nothing!!" she has potential but i wouldnt ask anymore than what i paid for her 4 months ago!! Or i could turn to the dark side and sell her for lots  to bad shes to loveable to part company with!!
