I have a 8 month old collie and a 11 month old lab who spend every day with me out on the yard doing the horses.
I am however considering taking on a JRT. I have had experience with them previously and have wanted one recently.
Anyhow i popped in to RSPCA today the have a beautiful JRT 6 months old and hes everything i would look for, ie. long leg, short hair etc etc.
On there recommendation i took my dogs back up to meet him and they all got on really well. Collie not fussed about anything and lab was great with him.
So any one else got more than 2 dogs and anyone think i am crazy for considering another?
As i said i have the space and am around all day and love the idea of rescuing him and giving him as happy a life as my other 2....

Thanks

I'd go for it

I have no trouble handling, paying etc for all 3 of mine (2 labs, 1 mini schnauzer)

I have two dogs and wouldn't take another - but only because my circumstances have changed since I got them and neither me or my partner are around all day.

If I was in your position he'd have been bundled up and put in the car immediately!! :-) Go for it!!

I have 2 rotties and a RR and wouldn't have it any other way. We got a third dig when we lost our beloved rottie Holly quite suddenly leaving Matty (RR) on her own. She struggled to cope so we got another rottie and then 12 months later another. They all get on great. We had some issues with the 2 bitches for a while when the female rottie matured and tried to assert domonance over the rr, who is also female.
I am at home all day so think 3 for you would be fine as you are there all day also. Go for it!!

I would go for it! I have always had a "pack" of dogs on the yard and it just isn't right without a terrier! If you can give them the freedom and attention they need, TBH it sounds like doggie heaven!

I had 5 whippets at one time. The only time it was a problem was if I wanted to go away. I wouldn't put them in kennels and it is hard to get someone to look after 5 dogs, even small one's. The only other problems was they were very good at working as a pack when it came to hunting...

Now I only have two left as they have slowly died off. I do miss having a pile of whippets tucked up around me, on the sofa.

I wouldn't think it was crazy but then I'm used to having three at a time.
However I think each situation is different when you get/have more than two dogs. It depends on the dogs personalities, maybe also which breed or crossbreed, on you and how much time you have for each of them etc.
Also personally, I wouldn't choose to have three young dogs so close in age, besides the "morbid" thought that there's bigger risk they die really close in time to each other some time hopefully way into the future, there's also the fact that if a group of dogs/wolves lives together, then there would be at least 6 months age difference between two litters.

I'm sorry, but I do get cold feet.

First you say you popped in and Oops, find out that they have a JRT that ticks all your boxes. Don't know how RSPCA works, but a corresponding Swedish version I do know of, is not a place where you just pop in without actually already considering getting "something".

Second you say you "love the idea of rescuing him". I've owned rescued summer-cats (the ones that isn't allowed to come with its family to the city-home after the vacation out on the country-side) and it feels very rewarding (still have one rescued 14 years old "moggy", but due to allergic BiL the younger cat is a pure-breed). But if you save this JRT, you know in a few months time it will probably be another JRT that needs rescuing that also ticks all your boxes, next year another one...
I'm 34 years old now and when I was around ten years old, my family went to a cat-rescue to get our second rescued cat. They had much more than 50 to choose from and we left with two, but I still remember a few that we didn't take and that one of those we left was called Nalle. I still to this day wish we had taken more than two, but that doesn't mean it would have been the right decision, it just means that I loved the idea about rescuing more than the two we did.

On other hand I don't know you, I have never met you etc. and I love to be wrong, but I'm more inclined to say Don't get him.

*Finnish Lapphund leaves the thread wondering what Cala will say about this reply*

I've just taken on my 5th and would have more if I had the space, time and money! Only you know if you could cope with 3 so I'd take the next step and get yours down to meet him. It sounds like you could give him a fab life

Go for it, piece of cake! I've got 5 dogs, 3 of those are JRTs.

Though don't be fooled by the half a dog thing - they're bigger than any large dog......or so they think LOL

I have just got my 3rd, and it really isn't much different to having 2, except for the extra feeds and house training cause she is a baby, but other than that she has slotted in to the other 2's schedule very nicely!!

We've got an 11 year old collie x retriever, an 8 month old flatcoat and are getting another flatcoat pup at the end of April (all being well!). We said we'd get another pup when this one was 1 or 2 - he'll be nearly 1 when the new pup comes

You might have more fun with 3 teenage tearaways though

, at least I've got one older, sensible one!

No, we have 3, a border collie an 8 year old flat coat and a flat coat bitch about to give birth any time(so nervous and excited

).
3 is great, found 4 didn't work as well though for us - don't know what were going to do when weve got loads of little black things charging around aswell
