Am i mad? Would you buy a horse unseen, from a photo?

No!

I found my new horse on line (horsequest I think). I saw 4 photos of her and a short video link.

The first time I saw her was when we drove from Dorset to Staffs to pick her up!

The only thing wrong with her was her height. She was supposed to be 15.2hh but she was 16.0hh but Im over that now! LOL

but you didn't say you had bought him from JM07 at first. Would I buy an unseen horse from someone I knew on the forum? Yes possibly if they were a regular poster and I had a feel for what sort of person they were.

I just wouldn't buy a horse out of a random dealers advert on horsemart because I've seen too many adverts that lie.

I have done it twice - a mare from Ireland, I almost wept when I saw her as she had the worst confirmation ever, but had apparantly bred two stunning and correct foals! I ended up off loading her at a tiny bit of a loss. The others were three ponies described as all broken in and quiet, the eldest being about 16 and the others 4 & 5 years. I paid £400 for the lot. They were dropped off at my place and I saw them that evening when I came home from work. The eldest one I did not think would last the night, and the other two looked jolly poor. The two younger ones we chucked tack on the next day and the kids rode them for 5 mins and they seemed quiet enough - but were so poor and thin they could hardly be anything else. After worming them I chucked them out for 3 months on spring grass. The eldest pony who was an absolute sweetie (and my kids adored him) put a bit of weight on, the other two gained loads of weight and one so much I was convinced she was pregnant. The older one died a year later (after suddenly going off his legs) Of the younger ones, one turned out to be quite a nice riding pony and we sold her - the other bucked like stink when we got on her (after her several month break) and I suspect had never been broken in. We broke her in, sharp but OK. I discovered a long time after that they had all come from a defunct riding school in Cornwall, and that the elder pony (who we called Sandy) was 41 years old!
Moral of the story.......buyer beware!

I did...and although 3 years on we are still inseperable...I would NOT do it again.

He is not quite what I thought I was getting...has taught me a lot though and neither of us has been permenantly injured....

ETA: did not read it was one of JM's....yup would buy from JM unseen...especially the hairy ones before she gets the clippers out!

Have just looked at the photos....he looks young (2 years?) and his feet need a bit of trimming, but has a lovely eye - and as he is so young you can chuck him out for a year or two and not worry (worm him jolly well) Looks like a great buy to me if you paid no more than say a £1K? Good luck and hope you have lots of fun

I like him too. There is something about him. I am not into coloureds or cobs (Im a bay TB person!) so for me to like him is really unlikely but he does look well put together...for a Pikey pony

Only joking! (About the Pikey Pony bit!)

Looks a good sort to me.

Hope it goes well for you.

I remember seeing that photo a while ago, glad he's staying with the HHO community and hope you keep us updated and with more piccies pleeeease!

ETA wasn't there a bit of a story with him the first time you posted that pic, JM? Or was the story just that you picked him up feeling a bit sorry for himself but knew he'd turn out good?

He is bought to sell on in the future, me and my son will ride him for a while, then he will be sold eventually, he is doing a good job of keeping my in foal mare company too!

he will be 3 in july 2009.
his feet have been done twice in my care, as have his teeth, and worming is well up to date, thankyou.

he IS a great buy..i wanted a good, sensible home for him.which he's got, so what DC paid for him is none of your business, TBH.

As he has good conformation and a amiable temperament, i'm sure DC will have a great time with him.
