I am thinking of taking madam cubbing in a few weeks. She hasn't been hunting since I've had her (10 years) She was a proper nut job when I first got her at comps. Am I going to blow her brains?

You might.

You might not.

How much risk are you prepared to take, and can you face a lonely hack back to the lorry if you have to?

And a horse that's a proper nutter at any other comp I take her to?

If she is still a nutter at competitions you will blow her brains completely with cubbing. BUT, if you stick to it and go for several weeks, you may well cure her being a nutter at competitions, if you are still alive to tell the tale.

Cubbing is slower than hunting but you still get a run or two which is wildly exciting. And trotting along roads and verges where she can slip and trip in her excitement. Bin there, done that!

Speaking as someone whose horse ran through wire and floored himself and me a week ago, are you SURE you want to go?????

My pony was a nutter when she was younger. I took her hunting as a kill or cure (it would kill me or cure her). It did neither. She would be ok out hunting but still mad the rest of the time.
Cubbing is realy boring I went today i took a 5 yr old i backed in the summer for his first day out. We had a long trot at the start then stood around for ages. had another trot , stood around and so on...... It was good for him and we're going again wed and sat untill he thinks it's boring and is used to hounds, the horn, other horses going past etc... Then when we go proper hunting he wont be so excited. (well thats the plan anyway). Go on give it a go she might enjoy it.

No that's the point she's a real pleasure to compete now. When I got her she had been over from Ireland 6 months and hunting and Jumping was all she knew which = a loony. I'm kinda hoping that she has grown up since then.
