Well, I said in my original post that I'd love a horse for me to ride, just a happy hacker. A horse has become available to loan, through a friend of my daughters, that would absolutely suit me, but he's 24. Still active, doesn't look 15, never mind 24, but would I be silly to take on a horse of that age.

Are you talking about a full loan or a share? Will he stay on his current yard?
An older horse may struggle if moved to a new yard/herd at his time of life.

You will also need to be clear about who is responsible for vets bills. As an older horse he probably won't be insurable for a lot of conditions. Definitely get a loan agreement before taking him on.

With those provisos and he is sound and healthy I would say go for it. Older horses are lovely.
