Been at a yard about 5 minutes from home since I got my boy in October 06. Full livery was £65. He was in a large field with only four other geldings and there was four fields to ride around including two with hills for fittening work. Roll forward to today and several fields have been taken over to grow wheat leaving just one flat field to ride around. There are about 20 more horses at the yard and due to the restricted fields he is now in a field with about 9 other geldings that is about 1/3rd the size of the previous field which naturally they've churned up in the rain so they're getting kept in far more. I'm feeling agrieved that the livery charge has gone up but the grazing and off road riding has depleted. Going to look at a new yard tonight that's on my way home from work but about 20 minutes drive to get to on a weekend so not as convenient. They have an indoor which I don't have now but more importantly they only have 20 horses, more grazing AND 8KM of woodland and fields to ride through. I feel guilty because my current yard is lovely but interested to know if anyone else would move because of this??

I go twice a day back and forwards to do my 2 and its 15 mins each way (so I spend an hour driving).

If the yard is right its worth the move. Sounds like an accident or an argument waiting to happen where you are now.

If I were you, I would be off like a shot. Its not nice being in a yard where you are not happy, and can't work your horse they way you would like. Its supposed to be fun, so find somewhere that you are both happy. It may take a couple of moves to find your Utopia and there will always be something that will not be quite right, but if the balance is positive, don't wait for the grass to grow under your feet, life is too short

You're right and I'd hate to eventually lose my rag and leave on a bad note. If know she has a waiting list at the mo so my stable would be filled at least. I will miss the people but I just wasn't sure if I was being too pedantic about the facilities. Off road riding is important to me because although he's good in traffic he is still a big spooky boy so I don't like to go out alone and because I work long hours there just aren't many people about to ride out with. I'm just such a guilt horder.

Well in which case i would feel no guilt. The facilites where you are are not suitable for your needs so you need to move.

Be brave....

Less grazing, more horses on the grass & YO wanting more money? You have to do the best for your horse & the second yard has everything you want. So it's a lttle bit further, it's not a vast distance. I'd certainly move, seems like you'll have a great time, go for it!

Just make sure the new yard does tick the boxes.

Ask who is around in the evening and go and see for yourselves who is around............

Sometimes its better the devil you know and other times its best to rock and roll!

I am contemplating moving........ but worried about leaving buddies behind and also what if my horse is a pain in the butt again to settle in?!

i aree id find all you can about the second yard, to see if it is perfect for you and your horse, if so go for it. also i think thats wrong, that the yard your on has done that, id understand if the rate was decreased.

I think I'd move as the only extra travelling is on weekends / days off so hopefully less traffic so shouldn't take too much longer and the facilities sound way better but look round first & try to get a feel for the people up there & how everyone gets on, etc. as you wouldn't want to have to move back to old yard if not right for you.

i would move defo.
when i moved yards at the start of last year i moved for the same reason so glad i moved now

as it has it was a small yard with 10 horses and now has 4 times more horses sounds like that is what is going to happen to your yard now. take the leap and do it u want look back well i never when i did it.
