Right so I have quotes for transport and insurance.
Got head collar X2 lead rope x2, bridle, buckets, saddle clothes X2, bottle of champagne, mucking out stuff, straw, hay, haynet, emergency electric fencing... I have grooming kit and stuff for me already. Just thinking about a first aid kit. What does everyone keep?

How exciting!

All I’d add is an emergency lightweight waterproof turnout - forever usual when it’s going to rain but you’re at work and want to ride in the evening.
Rugs in general really but theyre better to buy as and when you need.

Oh, and don’t forget the pictures for us lot :)

For a first aid kit the basics so in case of an emergency cut/wound you can stop blood flow until a vet arrives. Cotton wool, vet wrap, black tape (not masking tape as I first put ?), non stick sterile pads, sharp scissors or Stanley knife, thermometer, Hibiscrub, disposable gloves, nappies for abscesses and always carry it with you when travelling.

Good luck with new pony and we do need pictures.

Firstly.... How exciting!! Have you checked if the horse is currently getting a feed and if so what? Even if it's not something you want to keep them on long term, for the first couple of weeks it would probably be helpful to try and keep everything as similar as possible, likewise, might be worth checking if it's on hay/ haylage and how much.

Also don't forget to ask when it was last shod, wormed/ worm counted, had the dentist and physio etc. Even if you want to redo it all, at least it will give you an idea of what you're starting with.

All great ideas I'm merrily disinfecting my grooming kit as we speak.
Pony is currently unclipped and hairy with no hard feed on the side of a fell so I'm hoping it's not going to be too much of a shock. Farrier is sorted vet said teeth look good but is duea check according to the owner. Worming sorted.

Lovely girl! Congratulations!

Sounds like you are very well-prepared and others have made fab suggestions. I have a wildly big first aid kit as we have other animals too and I like to be prepared, but most does go unused. I would add some gauze to yours (I like it for cleaning small wounds) and keep a clean towel for emergencies. I also have some electrolytes and an ice pack which I think are useful.

Our horses are primarily unrugged but I do keep a rain sheet, a warmer turnout and a fleece to fit them just in case one is poorly. That’s something you could pick up secondhand as they crop up and just store well and hopefully never need.

Some treats? ?
