Dear HHOers
I feel I might have reached a crisis point in my equine career.
Now lets just say I am a showjumper. Its what I've done all my life and what i still like to do.
That was until last night.
I was popping 5yo big grey ID horse round keysoe CR last night and realised I no longer look like a proper showjumper.
Horse had snaffle bridle with NO flash.
Bit was nylon straight bar loose ring snaffle
No martingale
Wintec GP saddle
and wait for it .......BAREFOOT.

I didn't have spurs or even carry a whip.

So am i too far gone or is there a chance I could become a true showjumper again.

All advice probably ignored. :p

Dear PaddyMonty

You are clearly suffering from that rare but recognised condition whereby you have been trapped in the wrong body - now at this rather more mature stage of life, your inner Natural Horseman is trying to express itself. Your previous flirtations and experimentation with other orientations, even as extreme as "eventer mode" are just another symptom, and confirm this diagnosis.

You need to come out now, find your long rope, your funny headcollar and cowboy hat, and start chasing 5yo ID round a small pen. That is your way to true happiness - turn your back on the old showjumper PaddyMonty and embrace the new you :) :D

Thankyou for your well thought out advice.
Please dont be offended when I completely ignore it. There has to be a way back. :o

Ah that was you! I was the one of the big brown horse!

Your grey was ever so nice! I could easily have taken him home with me!

Shall I organise a coming out party? Invites only:
Western cowboy dress not optional. Venue will be in the 'Round Pen' ;) carrot canapes anyone?

You're all being very mean.
What happened to being supportive and telling me all will be fine and this is just a blip even if you dont believe it.

PS anyone know a good supplier of cowboy hats and cuddly bunnies?

Quick get the horse trussed up in the entire contents of the tackroom worn all at once and maybe you can be saved!

Post a picture and if someone starts a thread in NL about it entitled "How much tack?!?!?!?!?" or "Could this horse be wearing any more tack?!" then you will be ok. If not all hope is lost and you may as well swap your bridle for a rope halter now.

It could be worse...

It could be dressage!!!

Well I wasn't going to mention it but I have arranged to borrow the Paddy in my username (monty is the jumping one) who is also a big grey full ID so that I can do that poncy pairs stressage-par de deux with monty and his owner who happens to be a dresage rider.
I just keep diggin dont I. :o

So there is hope.
I sure as his owner is a dressage rider there will be a double bridle kicking around and if I dig far enough I bet I can find some drawreins. If I add my own martingale, kinton noseband and just for good measiure a long shank german hackamore I should be ok? Obviously biggest spurs I can find plus whip as standard.

On the other hand if I did that I would most certainly be looking for another comp ride :(

You forgot the market harborough. And standing martingale. Than you should be ok

And don't forget the cigarette & mobile phone welded onto one hand while mooching around the showground on a loose rein....hang on that isn't only show jumping!

You've forgotten the most important bit of all....the grumpy 'get out of my way' face :D
