This might be a little long, please bear with me
Setting the situation
H is at wonderful yard, he works there during the week doing RDA, which he is brilliant at. He is not worked hard, but he s happy and it keeps him ticking over. He lives out 24/7 and is a different horse since he moved there 2 years ago. I work fulltime and would not be without him. They do everything for him, I dont even have to go down there m-f. and I dont, this then allows the yard to get on with things with out the over protective owner syndrome and me interfering.
I have never laid down the law about him, and have let him change routine, feed the whole lot, to fit in with the other 4 horses (all geldings). I go down for the weekend and hack him out, which he loves and proves he is so happy, as he has energy and is just adorable. He is no longer hard to ride. Before he moved, you had to constantly use leg and whip to get him out of walk !! I now have the issue that we sometimes do not have breaks !!!
Myself and the yard owner communicate via the yard diary, she is not there at weekends, just livery staff who look after yard horses
Another note is that they pay for everything, insurance, shoes etc but at the end of the day he is MY horse. There was promises of a contract but we still do not have one and to date that has not been a problem
Just recently they have had a couple of horses retire and so have been looking for a replacement, fair comment.
The Potential Problem
New horse arrived its a mare. I was informed it was a mare and it was coming but not exactly when. Yard Owner did not ask if a mare should be a problem, and to be honest I thought it would be ok. he has been out with them before, been grumpy towards them, but nothing special. I did not mind that I would not be there when it arrived. I was happy that they would look after H and sort it all out. Yard owner is brilliant, we just leave each other alone. Horse came 2 weeks late, pick up got cancelled due to weather and then it would not load, eventually it turned up, found out the travel problems via the diary.
It arrived earlier in the week, so went down today thinking everything would be fine how wrong could I be.
Asked livery owner how it went, no body had called me or left ay notes, or written in the diary. It turns out that H kicked the living sh*t out of it !! they ended up having to put mare into another field with a livery mare.
Thought ok, quite funny really initially !!! groomed H and began to tack up, he seemed very grumpy with this, he walked away from the saddle, thought it was strange so thought I would take it slow and gentle. Hack turned out to be horrid, he was VERY reluctant to trot and when asked to trot would need a lot of leg and given the chance would fall straight into walk. This is not right. Had no choice but to trot on the road for a little and you guessed it H is LAME I am so pi**ed off
Would you be angry that no-one had contacted you and let you know what had gone on ? or am I majorly over-reacting ? I am so peed off, am seriously thinking of moving him and stopping his work, but he has made such good field mates there. I dont even know if other horse got injured. Luckily new horse owner did not come down, I would have looked so stupid if she had said anything and I had no idea.
I am sooooo down and to top it all off emotional about it all.
