Am I over reacting?

No update as yet... Texted back saying absolutely NO to using my horse, to which there has been no reply! YO was nowhere to be seen yesterday nor was RI. They will definately both be there tomorrow morning so I think I will go and ask the questions face to face and see what is going on. Lady who has had her tack used is fuming too and is going to take it up with YO. I don't hold out much hope of getting to the truth about what has happened but will be giving it a good go!

Stick with it and don't be a push over! Just say no and mean no!. I am sure everyone else on this forum is gunning for you and is equally as angered.

Cheeky beggars the pair of them.

Please don't forget to let us know what happens when you see YO & RI. I, for one, am very interested to know the outcome!!

Best of luck!! We'll be routing for you.

When you get face to face with this pair of jokers, I would raise the subject of public liability insurance, and ask what they thought the position would have been if there had been an accident whilst riding your horse with neither your permission or even your knowledge.

I thought I had stopped being surprised by the weird and wonderful world of horses, but this one has me open mouthed (again).

You and me both! I would have been up in arms enough at the idea of 'using' my horse for nothing as a way for the RI to make money out of. If I get it confirmed they have already been doing it im liable to murder someone. We are in a terrible area for yards so its going to be a real nightmare to find somewhere else..
So far there was the yard where someone left the gate open on several occasions (I thought the horse was stolen) only to find it in the YO's garden by a busy main road, the yard which had children in the stables handling my horse while I wasn't there and turning it out for £80 per week, the list goes on! The only other options are grass livery with no facilities (electric etc) or £140 per week full livery which is a bit excessive for a very hairy cob and nervous rider who at the moment is only really up for going round the block! Im going to go and look at local tack shops boards and hope there is something else I don't know about if its not resolved smartish!

Hi, no you're not over reacting. I'd be furious. Reminds me of a few months ago.....
I have a small school in my field. Someone said to me...." we rode over to yours yesterday to put up some jumps and just mess around a bit but when we got there the gate was locked? " I was speechless, probably just as well I couldn't answer!

Why do people do this? I just don't get it. I wouldn't grab the keys to a friends car and drive off in it (unless it was a planned prank which I have done on many occasions when I know they have the time to remove their car from whichever awkward parking position I have left it in!). I wouldn't go and cook myself a meal in someone elses house. Its just madness complete and utter madness.

Bens_Mum - try phoning local farmers and see if they have anywhere. I got my little corner and paddock by doing that. I love it on my own and there are aways retired ponies looking for companion homes.

keep us posted - I just can't imagine what I'd do if someone decided to ride the boy and I only found out afterwards. Blood would certainly be spilt. And the cops involved.

We are all well and truly behind you on this sm x

You are not over reacting at all!!!

I had a similar situation once - horse was used for lessons without my knowledge/consent. Found out & went spare at YO. She promised not to do it again. Sure enough, a few months later, found out it was happening again.

in the end I had to leave as I just couldn't trust them!!

You poor thing, of course you are furious! as well you should be!!

Sorry you are having such an unpleasant time. I do think you will have to vote with your feet though and find another yard.

And I do appreciate its all very well the forum (me included) shouting on your behalf but thats not much help when you have to face your YO and RI on your own. Continue to take your take home, advise the other livery to do the same as well. Tell the YO that you know your horse has been used without your permission or insurance covering this. You will be coming down at different times and if your horse has been taken without your prior agreement, then you will call the police as it is theft. Be assumptive in that you know they have taken your horse - if you leave a loophole they will wriggle out of it.. Good luck

OMG are you serious  that's unbelievable:eek:
There is a house with a arena up the road from me, but I asked them if I could use their arena to which they said yes :) Have to pay but don't mind that, although I havnt even used it yet lol still feels abit weird using someone else's school :o
Can't believe someone was going to use yours without asking  i'm gobsmacked

I agree with all the outrage, etc. I would be furious too.

But do make sure that you are not making unfounded accusations - try to get actual proof or an admission that your horse has been used. At the moment, unless I have missed something, all you seem to have is the very 'circumstantial' evidence of your tack being put back differently from usual. Someone may just have 'borrowed' your tack, not your horse. OK, using tack without permission is still bad, but clearly not as bad as riding your horse without asking!

Quckie update!

Went up to the yard on Saturday ready to kill but no YO or RI and still haven't managed to catch up with them yet although have left a message for YO.

Horses sweet itch rug was on wrong which means someone has removed it (its in 4 pieces so quite difficult to do if you don't know how it goes on). Horse has dried sweat patches around his girth (? caused by rug or being ridden?).

The lady whose saddle had been used had her stirrups put down by about 3 holes. No one on the yard except RI or myself are taller than 5"6 so it again points in her dirrection. Lady is furious as new Stubben saddle but is sure it hasn't been used on her horse as he is shall we say an interesting ride! She has mentioned this to YO who says it must be her mistake but she is sure it is not!

Yard is a farm where pretty much no one is there most of the time so getting hold of YO is proving rather difficult for some reason.. Have left other ladies saddle in a certain way to see if it is moved.

I have called around all local options and so far there is nowhere with any space that is half decent and I am concerned about how much he has been moved so it has to be right. I am hoping that they will stop now atleast short term as they have been rumbled but will be tackling YO when I finally see her face to face. Any other suggestions as to what to do apreciated, I personally am favouring fairly unpleasant ones but must restrain myself until another yard is found....!

Dear Lord - over-reacting? Anything less than giving them all two black eyes, to me is under reacting!

Methinks the riot act needs to be read! Is your OH burly? I'm boiling with rage merely reading this!

I think they know they have been rumbled and that they are in the wrong. When in doubt hide mentality.

I don't think you should be rude just point out that they are totally over stepping the mark that there have been strange things going on and actually even if they haven't been doing what you suspect that they are under a duty of care to ensure such things do not go on.

Keep at 'em and keep looking.

I havnt read all the replies but i would go mad. how totally unprofessional of YO and RI, apart from being totally rude too. What if your horse got kicked or had a road accident? TOTALLY unacceptable to use your horse without asking.

If shes as pushy a you say then be pushy back- softly softly doesnt work with these people. What a nerve! I'd be livid too.

You are not over-reacting and her behaviour is out of order. I think you will need to say that you do not want YOUR horse ridden without YOUR permission.

jezzzz there are some weirdos out there like  Id be raging if anyone done this on me, how rude! I personally would have it out with them then leave haha what a bunch of ... (insert word as appropriate :p) ...

What did you say to the RI when they text you?

I would have replied a simple "Have you used him before?" before anything else. I would then progress to saying you don't want him to be used by anybody without your knowledge and permission, and ask for their help in reinforcing this.

TBH, I wouldn't be giving any more chances, or worrying about moving the horse once again. If you weigh up the possible danger/discomfort to the horse of being ridden by an unauthorised person in ill-fitting tack against moving him to a safe environment where he can stay for a while, I think you'll go for the latter.
If I were you I'd be quite interested in the grass livery for now, at least you'll know who's riding him!
I wouldn't bother discussing it any further with the YO until the horse is off her premises, then I'd tell her EXACTLY why I'd moved!

No your not you need to move the horse -what if there was an accident hacking !Beware though, could be still using your horse with other tack

Oh Lord, I would go utterly crazy! I'm very precious about my lad and only certain people are allowed to handle him, let alone get on him.

I hope you can sort this quickly.
