I've had a renewal quote through today from KBIS for my two boys.
The first is a two year old cob insured for £450 with £275 excess and £3k vets bills, they want nearly £20 a month for him.
And the second is my 10 yr old hack, he's insured for £3k with a £135 excess and £3k vets bills. They want nearly £33 a month for him.
They have been good paying out for some X-rays last year on my hack, although they wouldn't cover physio therapy or livery.
Is this about right or are they a bit expensive?

Sounds about right. Mine is insured for 4K vets bills but I have a £500 excess and it's a whisker over £30 a month. I have LOU on as well, though.

I'd say that was probably fair

Do check the category that your two year old is in just in case you can get a lower one. My 18 month old colt (officially two as its January I suppose) is in the lowest possible activity category so absolutely no venturing outside the field or any tacking up or groundwork can be done and hs insurance is just under £11 a month (but he is only small so I guess that has a bearing too)

My older pony is in the next category up so is allowed on the roads etc.. and costs twice the amount to insure

Sounds reasonable.

H&H have a compare insurance app on their site so maybe worth doing a comparison as you may find cheaper. That said far better staying with a reputable company that pays out rather than a cheap and not very cheerful one when you need to claim!

We take my two year old out on the bridleway for in hand hacks and I started doing a bit of long reigning with him, he's nearly three so i think that put his up a little. I'm very tempted to move over to E&L to save loads but I've heard they don't pay out.

Would changing their value make any difference? trying to claim that value if anything goes wrong isnt always easy so if you can cope without the value payout then its an option

I'm not sure that changing to E&L would be beneficial, have a search on here for them to read some experiences (and indeed any company you may be looking at)

Pretty reasonable I think, I pay 22 a month for a 5yo with 500 pound excess up to 3500 cover for vets fees and no LOU cover, which is what made it more like 20 than 30 a month, as was having the higher excess.

Hiya Snorkey - I've not read past your post yet, but please don't go with E&L - they are bloody awful IMHE!
