Right basically I'm on a diy livery yard 25perwk in birmingham I have to share a field with one other person and there two horses I just have the one. So went up yard last night to stick ponio out to find one of there horses in because its hopping lame! And my feed bin down on feed :@ so upon speaking to fellow liveries they told me that the owner of the lame horse was hinting she had to keep her horse in she had no feed no hay or straw. And that the haynets and buckets I was using was there's anway (there not!) Also the day before I had swept out my tackshed it was spotless go in there today to find hay everywhere! And all over my stuff best part of it they pay for grass livery which is half of what I pay so there nott entitled to half of my shed or a stable anyway!! Cheeky b******** so as title really am I right to be annoyed ? I don't understand why they have two horses yet can't afford a bag of feed ? Strange.

Usually if a grass kept horse becomes lame, other liveries would rally round to ensure the horse has emergency hay/feed to see them through until the owner can sort their own feed.
Yes, having to share your space is inconvenient but that's part of being on a yard. The horse's welfare when ill, should be everyone's main concern.

In all fairness I dnt pay 25 pound a week for nothink they pay half I what others pay therefore I dnt see why they should get the package we get and also people would be more willing to help if they hadn't stolen other liveries wheelbarrows etc in the past

Normally they ask first??

So it would have been better to leave the lame horse in the field or without food or water in a stable overnight ?

Or maybe the horse should have given notice that it was going to be ill.
Glad I'm not on your yard. Poor horse.

NO. It would be better for one if they used a farrier instead of horses feet been overgrown see to their horses every day and regualarly feed but they don't and sorry but I work hard to keep my horse and see to him everyday I don't expect anythink off anyone and they are usin the stable for free

No one is questioning horse welfare or safety here just being too free with others stuff without asking - most yards and yo's have mobile numbers for other owners. No need to be so dramatic.

I think OP has the right to be annoyed - Whilst I can understand the urgent need for feed for a poorly horse - surely it is common courtesy to leave a note at the very least and replace any feed to the person you have borrowed these from??

A lame horse doesn't all of a sudden need feed etc a rapid change in its diet is not good for digestion in the first place.

Our horses live out year round in NZ and are used to it if this horse is, there is no reason it cannot stay out there just because it it lame, most cases movement is better than confinement depending on injury.

Its expensive enough having to feed your own horse esp when a lot of people need to carefully budget for such things, I don't agree helping yourself to someone elses feed and stable is acceptable and I would be annoyed as well.

Could the yard not find a spare stable for the horse?

100% agree it's not on when folk are waiting until pay day to buy feed etc and eeking out what they have. Most of us wouldn't hesitate to help it's the just taking that is unnacceptable.

It's wrong for them to have done what they did.

Regardless of how much each of you pays when a horse is in trouble it's the right thing to do to rally round and help.

Be understanding BUT work out what they have used and bill them for it.

Recently I was in similar situation - my horse out on lease was injured and required box rest. The leasees didn't have anywhere for him to go so I managed to find a place at a friends farm. In an emergency she had a yard ready, with hay and feed if I needed it.

Next day I went and bought what was needed and gave her a bale of hay to replace what I had used.

Generally while people may be annoyed at their stuff being taken without permission the situation was an emergency and understandable.

Be a big person!

they went about it the wrong way.
They should have asked first or if this way not possible let you know they needed to borrow it asap plus tidy up after themselves.

The horse was lame unexpectedly, most people do rally round, lend a stable and equipment etc.

So i think you are a lad over reacting.

I don't think I get this post :confused: You seem to be agreeing with most of us that people will help if asked then at the end say OP is over reacting. If they should have asked first and tidied up then she has a point surely?

I wouldn't have said no to anythink if they had asked me as long as they replace what the have used but they looked through all my stuff used my feed without asking and then overhearing them say last night has gone yet we need to feed. Cheeky. Then there's them accusing me of stealing a haynet of theirs and a bucket ( I have had these items for ages since my last yard) when they self admittedly don't feed there horses but I'm over reacting? Don't no what planet your on but if it was you it would be a different matter

I am sure the person would not have put the horse on box rest if it did not need to be, especially if they did not have the facilities, feed and hay. You can't leave a horse on box rest with nothing to eat and no bedding so they are going to need hay, agree they might not need feed but it the lame horse needs medication then they might have needed some feed to mix it in with.

I think OP has every right to be annoyed as they took without asking or leaving a note or some money to replace what was taken. If I had needed to borrow in an emergency I would have at least left a note and some money.

I am hoping that if they had asked to buy some hay/feed etc off you due to an emergency that you would have said yes, but perhaps they felt you would not have been approachable and would of said no and they were desperate.

Pleased I'm not on livery yards anymore. I once had someone who I definitely did not get on with borrow my stable then not muck out for days on end then leave it full of s$€t and said they didn't have time to muck it out due to caring for a sick friend. Filthy dirty women she was. I emptied the stable myself ... Straight into one of her stables.

The horse was first in on the 27th fair enough if they needed feed/hay for a night but ask don't STEAL. But to still be stealing your horses food two days later!!! Are there no feed shops where you are or are they the type that thinks the world owes them a living. Have you/YO said anything to them?

There's about 3 feed merchants down the road from the yard some pet shops will even order it in for you if you ask niceley. If they asked ppl on the yard ppl would tell them where to pick up feed. But they still are using mine have hidden bin now somewhere they won't find it but still have to hang around till they leave the yard to ensure they don't use/steal any of my stuff, as they self addmittedly don't feed there horses and never have have spoke to the farmer but he won't say anythink to them.

They've had enough time to buy their own. Emergencies are one thing but they're taking the pip. Their horses welfare is not your lookout.
