am I organised? I have just taken delivery of my winter supply of haylage and shavings. I also managed to get my grey boy's winter hay off the field a few weeks ago for £2.00 per bale!
I happened to go into my local feed merchant last week and asked him to give me a price for x amount bales of haylage. He gave me a fairly competitve price but then said that I couldn't have that many as there was a shortage. No second cut is expected but he could let me have y amount. So it got me thinking,
I do usually start getting bulk orders of stuff towards the end of august, I save a certain amount each month towards feed and bedding so that I can buy in bulk in the summer and at a good price. I only usually have to top up with bedding, feb or march time. It clears me out financially but I have a sort of peacefull feeling that my horses won't go hungry during the winter. Also the fantastic little yard that I'm at does have the space to allow me to do this. However, there are some good deals out there if you can buy in bulk , even if you get together with a few of your yard mates. I,ve even been known to store haylage at home in my garage just to get a good deal!
