as the title says.
i have my horses turned out at the moment, as a lot of you have.
the reason i am asking this question is that when i poo pick my field, some of the people on the yard think that i am sad, because i count my droppings daily, i have always done this.
does anyone else?

when they are stabled you can see the amount of droppings every day, when turned out they are spread around field. if i was to do my field and only find half of what i normally get, then i would know maybe something was wrong with one of them

Don't count them, but do know roughly how much I get each day (in terms of barrow loads) which did mean I was aware when Murphs droppings had reduced after an episode of choke, understandably, and was also able to check when things returned to normal.

Not sad at all. I don't consciously count but to know what is normal for each horse and can monitor changes. The in-foal mare, for example, who normally does elephant droppings, is doing smaller more frequent ones now - I imagine there isn't room for her normal processes but will keep an eye on them.

I dont poo pick, let alone count them!! Surely you can tell by looking at the horse to see what fettle it is in. Mine is turned out with dairy cows an sheep in 40 acres, life is too short. I dont iron clothes either!

LOL! I don't iron either, I agree with you on that one!

However I do poo pick as my horses are on small paddocks of restricted grazing (one fatty, one cushings) and their paddocks would be pretty horrible if I didn't. It's actually less than a ten minute job as they are tidy girls and have a set poo patch each. I am also able to swap the manure with my mother's tennis friends for wine, so it's very beneficial! :D

For wine I would make the effort!!!!!

I'm a counter too! I have mine on a strip system, so it's easier to pick up daily. I can even tell which horse's poo's are which.

I must be even sadder though because I'm an ironer too :o

I am so sorry, poor you!! You are wasting hours of your life ironing! Its just to do again. I just pile my washing up and sling it in the drawers!!

What's wrong with yet another measure to guage if your horse is OK compared with other days? I would say I don't count exactly, but generally know if there are more or less and yes, I'd take a swing in either direction into account, then check the individual if I was concerned.

I know, I've tried to stop, but just can't! Hubby needs shirts and trousers ironed for work, and I just kind of keep going, I don't do towels, bedding or underwear though. What makes it worse is when I go in my son's room and find my ironing literally stuffed into drawers because he couldn't find what he wanted, so it's a bit pointless anyway half the time. I really need a support group of some sort, something like 'ironers anonymous'.

You've got me wondering what I could use my ironing board for if I stopped, hmmm there must be something equine related ....

I had to iron a dress for a garden party last weekend and I actually had to stop and think for a good several seconds about where the ironing board is stored when I went looking for it! :p

That is funny, I never have that problem as I dont own an Ironing board, or iron. My clothes are neglected. Thank god there isnt a charity for the cruelty to clothes, I would be serving 7 months by now!

If mine were in small paddocks I would count and poo pick too. Always have done, horse now out in vast field with sheep but still note the state of the droppings when he comes in.
