I am wondering if i am searching for the impossible horse and if i should stop looking yet?

I've been on the look out for an eventer type 15.2hh-16.2hh jumping 1.10+ on loan. Do you think people are not willing to loan and are just intrested in selling?

The one horse i found and we arrange to go and view was put out on loan today despite the owners saying they were going to allow everyone to see the horse and then see who was most suitable.

Me and mum just dont have the experience of the current selling market to understand what people views are on this and i was wondering if anyone in this situation with a similar horse could tell me their opionions on this?

Thanks
Lucy :)

I think people with horses like that don't put them on loan simply to the horses being too good and they don't want them ruined i guess. And the few of the ones that are put on loan are usualy within a group of well known people and through friends so the owners can trust the person fully, if you think about it, if you had an eventer that could event at 1.10+ you wouldn't trust a random stranger with it as it'd be too valuable. Thats just my opinion though. :) good luck in your search :)

Horses like that rarely come up for loan without their quirks.

We were looking for one 4 years ago, Ended up with a 14.2hh mare with the experience at that level, but somewhat of an an attitude, meaning her two previous jockeys had spent a lot of time on the floor and being eliminated. However, she'd SJ'd up to 1.20m and had done PC champs for Open dressage and SJ, placing in both in her time. Totally mental, if she stopped you came off and a screw loose but equally very talented and knew her job very well.

Looking again and ended up with Reg. 16.3hh ex-racer who had only raced and hunted. Now, he is a horse with the talent to jump 1.10m+, do Novice BE and all that shizzle and by next year hopefully he'll be classed as a schoolmaster of sorts. But she's had to do it all.

Horses like that don't come up very often and they go through word of mouth. We are well known in the area, active PC members and do a lot of RC stuff, and teams for both. But no one knew of anything. You have to get lucky!

As above if someone has a horse doing 1m10 happily, they are probably going to sell or keep going themselves til it does sell. It will be fairly valuable so they will often prefer it to sit in the field doing nothing than go off to someone they do not know.
I had a look at your videos and saw that you were doing the xc at Pontispool last Sunday, your coloured was going nicely so why are you looking for something else??
The other thing I would say re. a horse on loan is if you are looking for a schoolmaster type to teach you the ropes you may have more success if you are proactive and put a wanted ad on Horsequest or the BE site these are the places that owners of the sort of horse I think you are looking for would use.

My coloured just isnt up to jumping over 1+ courses and i do love him dearly but i'd like to jump a bit bigger. I did think about a wanted add on horsequest, do you think this will attract attention?

As long as you don't spend silly amounts of money on the ads then give it a go! You might just find what you're looking for. And you'll never know if you don't ask (or advertise in this case :D )

Or, if the coloured is nice, sell him and fund a new horse? Or is that not a good suggestion?

No not a good suggestion! :) He's that horse that i will never be able to sell! Oh well i'll have a look at add prices and keep looking :)

Thanks for the advice :)
