So... I'd found a horse I really liked on a rehoming site, sadly he went to a new home last weekend.

I'm starting to think I'm looking for the impossible

16.2hh+ gelding
Something that'll be capable of a bit of everything, general riding club sort
Does NOT need to be schooled, looking at ex racers (have been reschooling a friends)
Not a fan of greys (too hard to keep clean!!!)
Pef not something too cob like, nothing against cobs, just not for me

And on a serious budget (around 1000, thus looking at rehoming charities!)

Hmm, yes it's impossible isn't it!!

Forgive me for no doubt being stupid, but you're looking for an ex racer or you're not? You weren't very clear :')

And surely you mean re-schooled?

Hi not impossible :) if you don't mind straight from the track what about contacting your local racing yard , I have a couple of friends who have done this and have found some lovely horses one was sold for £600 and the other for £1 .
ps I also find my farrier is a font of knowledge when it comes to horses for sale .

Get yourself onto the directory of turf (Google is your friend;)), find yourself local-ish trainers and ask every single one of them if they have something suitable. You'll probably have money left over for a nice rug and a bridle from your budget :)

Hi! No, not impossible at all. Maybe you're just in the wrong country? ;-)

Like this pretty chap in Denmark:

A Danish Warmblod:

Or a Frederiksborg:

Here's a nice, homebred, never-raced 6yo:

An old-fashioned Danish Oldenborg, if you're to the sturdy type:

Or a registered dash of colour:

etc. etc. All under £1000.

Try Cheveral House Racehorse Rehoming - they're on Facebook. I've just got a lovely boy from them, Kate who runs it is really accurate in her assessment of all her horses and makes sure she finds the right match for them and for you. I'm absolutely thrilled with my chap.

I would try facebook local ones, then horses for sale east anglia, project horses for sale, horses for sale and loan. All on facebook, I have seen a couple that looked worth a trip.

Not impossible but by that budget and your experience with ex racers id say that would be the best direction to go.

They often make good all rounders, they are often just misunderstood.
They can be of a very reasonable price depending if you get one direct from trainer or after is done a little schooling.

Do you know anybody connected to p2ping in your area? There's a a 7 yo just retired come up on my fb feed just now but I'm miles away from you. My ex boss sold a lovely homebred that p2p a few times was just too slow for meat money so worth trying to find local p2p yards. Also they *should* have hunted, hacked out on roads, maybe done some x-country schooling, a lot of yards round here take them.
