... are there any (treed) saddles that are really comfy? I say treed as I have tried treeless in the past and found them really comfy compared to treed but had other issues (mainly that I couldn't afford what I wanted) so went back to treed.

I currently have a GP Saddle Company saddle mainly because I liked the fact that it was adjustable as my horse changes shape and the serge panels are meant to be comfy for my horse. BUT I find the seat really hard, I have tried different seatsavers but think they look a bit messy (mine are old and tatty) and anyway find they distance me a bit and would like to sit deeper/closer to my horse. It may just be me and the way I'm put together

but other people at my yard don't have seatsavers and don't seem to have this problem.

My friend had a saddle made for her horse and had a layer of memory foam put into the seat and says its incredibly comfy even if she's in the saddle for hours, so why don't they put this in all saddles as standard? Does anyone know of any saddles/makes that are really comfy?

I have an Ideal WH and I LOVE it, it is by far the most comfy saddle I have ever placed my derriere in. Although I no longer ride in it (pony is retired) I could hack out for hours and hours and house and my bum didn't feel sore once in the 6 years I rode in it. I have also ridden in a few other Ideals (mainly the Jessica) and again that saddle was very comfy.

my dressage is very comfy and I think prob has memory foam or similar. My GP, I have to have a memory foam seat save with.

My Cair Wintec 2000 is great, with the equisuede seat but the VSD has a hard seat so I use my memory foam seat saver on that one. When I had a Zaldi leather saddle I had to use my seat saver all the time as it was like sitting on a brick!

My K2 has a hard seat.... so the first time I hacked out in it, I came back with blisters! I had padding put in the seat of my dressage saddle and did have on my jumping saddle till gray horse changed shape and it wouldnt fit!

If the saddle co saddles are anything like the Barrie Swain ones, I found the seat of mine very wide and hard. My new saddle is a dream and I can spend all day in it and be as good as new!

After xmas i am HOPEFULLY going to be able to afford to invest in a really good saddle, one thats right for both of us!! at the moment i think her saddle is sitting abit tight as shes filling out and am concerned it could be pinching her so i am reluctant to ride her untill its sorted. I too have to say i find the saddle she has now to be very uncomfortable!! a while back we went on a 4 hr hack - went to the hunt meet and had a very very sre bum afterward!!

Ideal WH is really comfortable I find too.
Also a Heather Moffett Seatbone saver will help you, whatever kind of saddle you end up in. Well worth the money IMO

Fab response, this is really helpful, thanks v much. Sounds like pretty much anything but a SC saddle is comfy

Titchy, yes had forgotten about Paul Jones saddles, I went to try a horse once which I didn't like but LOVED the saddle and asked what it was and that was a PJ. Just googled and they're £600 new, £300 - £400 secondhand which I think is v reasonable

I have the same problem - I'm slim and therefore not much padding on the backside and I find ANY tree'd saddle uncomfortable.

I currently ride in a treeless which is the only saddle I can ride in without getting bruised seat bones.

I've ridden in all sorts and makes of saddles and although many feel comfortable intially, I am always really badly bruised the next day and take a good couple of days to heal. I don't get muscle sore, just bruised seat bones.

I've found a Heather Moffat seat saver helps a little but not entirely.

P.S I have two saddle company saddles too and found they're not better or worse than any other saddle I've got/ridden in.
