Am I the only one who get's angry when I see this?

I bought a younger model to replace my older one but hes going no where and guess which one i ride most. My younger is nuts and not safe to take anywhere like busy road strong winds rain My old boy i can rely on and know i wil come back still on him. Iv owned him eighteen years its not my job its my duty to care for him for the rest of his life. And im no way rich i cant remember the last time i bought stuff for myself. But if push come to shove the younger one would go
 
I don't think thats bad... I personally would buy a 22 yr old to pootle about on providing it passed a thorough vetting. I'm not scared of older horses that are well cared for. I started a 17yo in dressage and she rather enjoyed it. Shame she got injured in the field.

I think horses these days at 22 are not to be written off. Sometimes they have more spirit than some youngsters!

There is a 32 yo pony only retired this year. Still hoons around with my 18mo filly as if she were the same age.

Yes horses and ponies can be outgrown or the rider wants to progress further. If that is the case and we are talking of a couple of years and not aged horses and ponies then that is fine.
However it really pees me off to see adverts like this, or ones where the horse/pony is older or has an issue and they need to find a FOREVER home etc.
Or when you see mares for sale, broodmares being passed on, mainly older ones who have no doubt served their purpose for THAT particular owner!
Worse still are the adverts of 3 for the price of 1.
A mare in foal with a youngster at foot too. Such irresponsible breeding.
I also have to add that if I was injured, sick, dying, skint or whatever else I would be thinking first of rehoming my younger horses and not the ones who have been my friends for many years.
Such a sad world we live in.
No surprise though as many horsey women are evil back stabbing bitches to even their human friends so why should we expect them to act any differently with their horses.
At the end of the day to many people horses will be just commodities whose sole purpose is to propel their owners/riders into stardom and self gratification.
When the horse/pony can no longer help them achieve this they are passed on.
Sad but true and a pure reflection of the arrogance and self importance of humans.

I think this is harsh. My mare when I had bred from her will be sold. Past horses have been sold either as thats what they were bought for, I outgrew their ability, they didnt turn out as good as expected ability wise ect. I use horses to compete I cant keep every horse I own

You can think what you like love, you have your opinion and I have mine.
I don't have any excuses for getting rid of mine as my horses are for life and not commodities or to help me reach personal accolades.

I'm like you FW and keep animals, where possible, for their whole lives. However I know lots of people who sell horses and as long as the horse is in good health, not too old, sound and well schooled, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I know an adorable pony who's elderly now, but has been passed from family to family teaching generation of children to ride. She is and always has been a very loved and happy little mare. :)

If no-one sold horses on, where would the rest of us get ours from? :confused:

Also, who's to say horses wouldn't be happy with a new owner who only wants to hack with an older experienced horse?

Lack of those on the market and no wonder.

It's sad when you hear of horror stories but the majority of horses do go to lovely homes.
