...dislikes cobs and any other large, clumsy horses or ponies?

I don't hate them, I do like the heavy types (got a Fjord myself). But most of the cobs are: Bay, big head and have a clumsy build. They are sometimes the most rediculous cross of breeds.
And still people keep breeding the most rediculous crosses, but the economy sucks! So why?!

Or is it just because I live in Holland for the last 7 years and just haven't been infected with the cobvirus?:p

Nope, my OH (Belgian) can't stand em an all.......you can add Spanish horses and arabs to that list for him....

I love em, I think that the great spectrum of horses is a fantastic thing. This is why (although I know nothing about it from what I read on here) think showing is a great celebration of the horse and for some breeds/types that no longer have a "useful function".

But be warned.........when the oil runs out..........:o

I have a Sect D X, who whilst not very chunky, has a very cobbish attitude and I love it!
A lot of cobs are big, loveable, brilliantly natured confidence givers who LOVE to try their best and please their riders. What's not to love???
I've seen cobs do fantastically at dressage and a lot I've seen have a natural flair for jumping.
Agreed Teds Mum I think a lot of people will disagree!

Obviously just you!!
I am TB person, into my racing/eventing etc. I have TBxWB and a TB.
Saying that I do have a shireXdales. She is a very heavy cob and she is the coolest. You put a complete beginner on her and she is as safe a houses. She is sensible, bombproof etc. Yet when I ride her she is so fun. She can do basic dressage, god she can jump! She would be fab for a days hunting. Also compared to all TB's she is so level headed. Not easily spooked and tough!

I have a maxi Cob! He is the most awesome hunter will cross any country and is very well known in our hunt for being such a fantastic horse!! Oh and nearly forgot just turned £15k for him! Not bad for a big clumsy horse.......

Most of you haven't had a WB then or hate them.

but why breed with a cob?!

Come to wales, you'll soon be infected with cobitus! :D I see some super Welshies that are beautiful, powerful, athletic, fantastic movement, jump like stags... and are a little hot, not steady and slow at all! ;)

Why breed them? Because they are damn good ponies/horses and people want to buy them. :)

I think why I dislike them is because Cobs (or chunky horses) are hated over here. I just have been brainwashed by the cob-haters and it's normal over here. Everyone and everything is a warmblood.

Should go over to the UK and ride on one or something.. maybe I'll change my mind.

What a rediculous.. sorry, ridiculous... thread!

Every horse was originally bred for a purpose, cobs included. It's as ridiculous as a thread asking 'Am I the only one who hates blondes?' or whatever.

I hate the colour red :D:p

BTW Horses for courses! (and my cob is way more 'switched' on than a warmblood! and deffo not clumsy- you should see her jump!)

With a few exceptions (largely Welsh Ds) I don't like the way cobs move - if I was looking for a horse I wouldn't choose a cob. BUT I have been riding a young cob recently and I defy anyone to say he isn't a special horse. Honest, steady but willing, level headed, and no matter what I ask he gives it his best shot. I've never met a tb or warmblood who is so fundamentally even tempered as this horse, he is the perfect novice ride but has the capacity to grow in ability along with his rider. For a first horse there's not much more you could ask.

Who says their not loveable and sweet?! Their characters are fantastic, got to say that, but why breed with a cob (or a chunky clumsy built horse)?! And the horsemarket isn't doing very well either.

Horses with a bit of bone and fantastic temperaments are worth their weight in gold. The market might not be doing very well but the cobby sorts are generally the ones which are selling because they are a lot more versatile and easier to work with than something sharper like a Thoroughbred. There are a lot of bad quality Thoroughbreds on the market at the moment which are worth next to nothing.

My cob is possibly the most stupid horse i have ever met , but i love him for it he would go up to the bully of the field expecting a groom of him but just gets a kick :) This has happened many times but he has never learnt, He is such a good horse though , bearing in mind he's only three (:

I'm not really a cob fan. However my daughter schools a traditional cob and he is quite nice, a bit of a cheeky sod though and not keen on his blue eyes but he does a decent dressage test and is sweet tempered in the stable, not really suitable for his novicey owner though.

I think the market you are talking of is the one for competitive warmbloods - which is stiff at the best of times, let alone when no-one has any money.

I think in the british amateur, hobby riders market, people want something that can do the job, but equally doesn't require masses amount of fuss and feed and will be sane if it has to spend 2 weeks in the field with no work. There is always a market for horses like that in the UK :)

By the way, I would count amateur hobby riders as those that compete up to Novice BE (and above?) and up the 1.10m SJ - I have seen heavier built horses doing both of these :)

I imagine the ones you are describing are Ardennes or Normandy cob Xs and are being bred for meat. I would entirely agree if that is the case - not very lovable.

Not a cob fan tbh. Theres alot of them at the RS i work at and they are so sweet natured but not my cup of tea :D im more of a TB, ISH person and i like warmbloods to ... if only i could afford one

I hate threads that start with 'Am I the only one who'.... Jeez out of the billions of people on this planet... no I doubt you are 'the only one who'....

Oh and no a cob wouldn't be my cup of tea - I'm a TB owner but hey live and let live! Why would you hate a animal for being what it is? I really don't understand that and find it very sad. You can't help what you are born as... and that includes humans.

I have a traditional cob (Not 100% on breeding but no rediculous crosses) who I love to bits....no big head, not clumsy built...very nice and in proportion with good confo (far as I can tell) oh and he's not bay..he's black :D

I get why some people don't like them, personally i'm not too keen on arabs, I think they look weird...

Herc is worth his (cosiderable) weight in gold, he's polite and respectful on the ground, including standing stock still and not moving a muscle when being groomed of handled by the kids (talking 4/5 years old, who barely come up to the top of his legs), affectionate, far too intelligent for his own good, will adjust his behaviour to who ever is riding him - being a total dope on a rope for beginners and sharper and faster for me/my sister and more competant riders.

And as for clumsy...i'll admit he occasionally falls over his own feet when not paying attention, but he can also turn on a six-pence and turn tight circles with out breaking stride.

Cobs are probably the only horses that are holding their value at the moment. You can pick a TB up for a couple of hundred quid, I defy you to find a cob for that sort of price. I am not going to extol the virtues of cobs to you and just repeat what everyone else has said, but as a family who have a WB x and had a TB, our meat bred cob - possibly percheron cross with something else completely ridiculous beats them all hands down, and she is only a baby.
