Am I the only person who doesn't like this video

Tolerant horses...

I don't like it either.
Can't see mine being too impressed with standing in the water for me to jump off him.

..maybe better than being thrashed around a field, being made to jump, jump, jump...whilst being yanked in the mouth and spurs being dug in? I've seen kids AND adults do much worse.

I do disagree- the horses look like they're enjoying cooling off and having a snooze.

In any case it's just a snapshot of these horses' lives. Bit harsh to judge them without knowing more about their circumstances.

The only criticism I'd make is no helmet...

I find the video from a parental health and safety point of view a bit scary but the horses aren't shut down they are well trained and relaxed about standing in the water, in my opinion.

Very tolerant horses......but perhaps it would have been better if the parents had just bought a paddling pool!

Very true. Still not a fan of seeing them jumping off them into the water, but on the scale of things it's on the lower end of things I don't like seeing.

Happy well adjusted horses enjoying the water on a very hot day
Those horses are not 'shut down '
They are calm and accepting of the children .
I agree there are potential risks to the children but sometimes life's about more than risk management .
I bet in the future a lady in her seventies will tell a grand daughter about how she and her friend used to play with their ponies in the river .

Too be honest I watched a bit of it on facebook and thought Id would have been much happier riding my pony then using him as a spring board but they look quite happy in the water. It does not offend me as much as the video of the "dead Pony" with its legs in the air, having stuff thrown at him. That one left a bad taste in my mouth, I certainly didn't find it funny like a lot of people did!
Goes to show how different we all are!?

Well-trained horses. Not shut down as still reacting with facial expressions but a relaxed body. Some of us believe in habituating our horses to various challenging situations as it makes them safer, it is done slowly and kindly. Look at police horse training videos to see what I mean.

I'm in my 70's but we didn't have a river. What we did have was head collars made from baler twine (because Red Indians don't have proper bridles), sliding down ponies' necks because there was no saddle, nor hats either come to that. Do kids still climb trees or is that politically incorrect these days without a hard hat, ropes, and a thorough risk assessment?

Agree and I'm not convinced there isn't something wrong with that particular pony.

Think you're being a grinch.

Ponies are calm and relaxed. I know I'd choose a life of being loved by little kids and doing different things than being dragged around an arena five days a week for any horse.

I am almost completely convinced there is something wrong with that pony.

My first pony used to do something similar (although never got stuff thrown at him).He lived to the grand old age of 28 and never had a single bout of lameness and the only illness he ever had was strangles when the whole yard caught it.

Obviously just being a grinch....

Just wouldn't use my pony as a platform to jump on and off its spine into the water.

Swim with pony yes. But stand on its spine and leap off... No

To be fair I'd imagine you weigh a good bit more than the 4 or 5 stone that those girls weigh, no? The horses don't flinch once.

I don't think they are ponies. They are probably quarter horses and those girls are very light. I can't see what harm they could possibly do those horses. As I said before I do find it worrying in terms of the girls being injured but definitely not the horses. Would I let my daughter do it, no, because I am far too risk averse to allow that. Would my horses tolerate it happily, absolutely. (In this fantasy we've also moved somewhere a bit hotter than Scotland and it's not a puddle we are standing in lol).

It would have to be hotter than Scotland unless the ponies were attempting to escape the midges and children where in wet suits to stop them getting exposure .

Same. Reading some of the replies, I get the feeling "the child" has been extinguished from a few people. As a teenager, I played cowboys and Indians, Badminton and thought nothing of charging up and down the beach bareback, wearing shorts and sneakers in a halter, because swimming the horses afterwards was the best bit.

We would happily ride all day jumping anything we could find, and daring each other to all sorts of mad stunts. I never did manage to perfect the flying leap onto a moving horse though ....

Oddly enough our horses were fit, bomb proof and never needed a saddle fitter, a chiro or an animal communicator. How did they ever cope.
