I went and saw this 14.2hh 6yo welsh cob today- really liked her but couldnt help but think i was too long legged for her?

What do you think? Not the best photo i know- sorry.

While im here, what do you think of her in general?

Nice alrounder im looking for, no superstar!

Your not too big in the fact that she will be able to happily carry you (weight wise etc...). How old are you?? Are you likely to get much taller?? If you are, you may want to buy something a bit bigger (to grow into, rather than grow out of)!!

you don't look to big on her..
critique wise, for me her neck is to short and she looks narrow in front, her shoulder is upright, although hard to tell with that saddle, and she is a little weak behind, tail set too low for my liking...sorry not my kind of cob, BUT if she suits you and you like her and she does the job you want her for then go for it!!
that's my opinion and i'm sure my cobs would not be everyone's cup of tea!

They had her saddle far too forward and we're on a little dip with her backside on the lowest part- she does need some work as shes not been worked very much but shes very well priced which helps!

Im 24, so no growing yet-i worry that my legs are almost coming over her body? At 6 shes not going to grow anymore either which is a bummer as shes soooo lush!

I don't think you look too big on her but she isn't anything like any Welsh Cob I know - a very poor stamp of one if she is. I think a more 'full up' 14.2hh would be more suitable for you as an allrounder.

Hmm personally I think your too tall for her though weight wise im sure your fine. They say measure the top of your shoulder to the horses withers and if your taller then the horse is too small. But I have friends who ride western and it seems normal to ride horses too small lol.

When you say all rounder what exactly do you want to do? I think you are ok weight wise but might feel awkward and too tall on her, but obviously you have felt her so will know the answer to that!

She's not the best example of the breed but obviously that wouldn't matter if you didn't want to show seriously. Will probably look a lot better when fit & a tad more weight on her.

Incidently I don't know anything about what you're looking for but be aware that as a young welsh D she has potential to change from her current temperament and get a bit mischievous!!

I think as long as you are comfortable and happy and if you decide to buy her you wont keep worrying about how 'big' you look then get her. You are not too big, yes you've got long legs, which could maybe effect your balance on a smaller horse when jumping? I think the pic dosent do you justice tho as she saddle is too far forward and shes standing a bit funny. If you like her get her, as long as you wont be thinking 'what if?'

Just fun PC/RC type stuff really- galloping through the forestry, doing some summer SJ etc.

I know shes not the best example and her price reflects this hugely.

I 'felt' ok on her until i knocked her leg with my foot and suddenly thought- oh bum, am i too tall.

I did that all the time on my old horse 15.2 skinny arab (am 5"11!!) but i've done it once or twice on my 16.2 aswell, I think its just one of the disadvantages of long legs! ( Or bad position Lol!!)

Being honest - if you think you are too big for her now, chances are you will always have a bit of a 'thing' about it and will never be truly comfortable.

IMO you have a lovely long leg and would do better to find something a wee bit bigger to take it up.

she may fill out more and muscle up with correct work/feeding, you will then find she will take up more of your leg. how do you feel on her?? do you feel too big?? if so look at something 15.1 plus.

I dont 'feel' too big, it was just the bump with my foot which started the issue to be honest?

I suppose as long as shes fun and safe it shouldnt matter whether shes 14.2 or 10hh! lol, i think it just made me worry whether it would affect her when we were jumping etc?

p.s i would love to have long legs - you don't know how lucky you are!!!!

You don't look far too big for her, and if she ticks all the boxes, then I would go for it. There is no perfect horse or pony out there and once you have her you won't even think about it.
