Am I too big for her?

I think it's a lovely photo - poor mother!

You look lovely together. Troggy is 5'4" and Toffee is 13.3hh. A lot depends on the build of horse and rider, rather than just heights. Maybe the looks you were getting were envy!

Not at all- and the girl on the grey horse behind looks to have her feet at a similar level to your's!

I look similar on my horse, she's 15.2 and I'm 5'7". I always thought I'd want a 16h+ horse, but she just feels great and a lot of the time she can feel much bigger than she is.

Just ignore the comments or looks, probably jealousy and you have nothing to worry about as long as you and your horse are happy.

So come on, 'fess up and let us know the answer!

My guess is you're similar to me and my horse- 15.2 / 5'7".

Nobody who has posted their photos here is too big for their mounts. I must admit I looked at the photos and wondered why any of you think you might be, and Blackcob, you look really nice on yours. You're not very big yourself!
Mine are all small-ish, I've got a 14.3 hh Arab, an 14 hh Arab x Welsh and a pony that is about 13.3 hh. I'm 5' 3" and weigh about 9 st. I'm not too big for any of them, they are strong little souls.

If I may turn the question around. If you are all under six feet tall and riding ponies and horses up to 15.3 hh. What an earth should I be riding at 6'1"???

I think I need to look out for something in excess of 17 hands!

Blackcob, you look fine in the photo.

We have a bit of dobbins sizeism down our way. It seems that if it ain't a 16 hand TB, your not a proper rider! (A 15.3 cob is just about OK, as long as it's coloured)

Sorry I've only just replied, been at work all weekend!

Some of you were close and some way off

Beauty is a 14.2hh Welsh Cob and I (believe it or not) am 5ft 8"

I will admit that my legs are usually below her belly a tad, my stirrups are jumping length there and I usually ride a couple of holes longer.

She does love her hunting and is still a mad uncontrollable demon pony at the end of a long day, so I think she's coping just fine with carting me about

My mum also rides her at weekends while I work and she is only 5ft 5". I do think she'd struggle to manage a bigger horse. Beauty is extremely strong anyway, look at that big bull neck she's got going on

Thankyou for all your comments, I feel somewhat reassured.

I think the bad vibes at shows are usually coming from the parents of children who've come lower down the placings to us in show classes. Being an M&M a lot of the other competitors are teenagers and younger children on small ponies, and it must rankle a bit to be beaten by an adult (although I am by no means a professional, I'm just an overgrown kid on her childhood pony
