I've started riding a 13.2hh mare and I'm 13 years old 5" and around 7 stone (probably 7 1/2). I'm worried I'm big for her. She's quite a heavy cob but she's slim and her belly doesn't take up my legs. I don't have a picture of her sadly but from what I've described do I sound too big?

Thanks for the advice everyone, I feel a bit self conscious riding her as most of my friends are riding 14.2hh and up and her previous rider grew out of her when she just turned 10!

its the weight which is most important and you are fine, a chunky 13.2 will be ok with that light weight as long as it is healthy and reasonably fit...

My little sister still rides her pony from time to time, and he's a very fine built Welsh B who's just under 13hh. She's 16, five foot like you, and he's an OAP. He has no problem carrying her - in fact, he absolutely lights up at being ridden.

Look up diamonds in the rough dressage, Fran is far taller than you and has a welsh B and a welsh C. She looks super on them both.

Oh I should add I'm 8 st 7 (I think?) and ride a cob of a similar height at my riding school, and they seem to think I'm OK as they wouldn't risk laming a horse with a too heavy rider because the ponies are their income. I look bloody stupid because I'm so tall but the horse doesn't care :o
