Am I too big to ride..,

The thing to remember TG is that a lot of people speak their minds on here, and I think this poster was genuinely shocked that you had to ask.

I doubt that by the sixth page of replies the poster was still shocked the OP had to ask, sounds much more like someone taking the opportunity to be rude IMO. It seems a little unncessary to ask this so far into the thread.

I know, but none of the horses I ride seem to mind;) can't hurt to lose a bit tho!

I didn't say they did mind ;)

Look, I'm nagging you because the long term effects of being overweight are miserable and its a damn shame to see a young girl needlessly setting herself up for a life time of struggle.

I like you, I think you're a great kid from what I've seen here and I'd like you to have more opportunities than you're currently giving yourself.

I have a little fell 'type' pony, who is 11.3hh, who I ride now and again.....she is *absolutely* fine to carry me for an hours gentle hacking......(I am just over 11 stone!); she is about as stocky as ponies come but her normal 'rider' is a friend of mine who is about 10 stone. She loves it, and when fit, can keep up with my 15hh horse!!!

I would say it would depend greatly upon your balance as much as your weight. I'm sure I read once that little stocky ponies could carry as many stones as they were hands....maybe I am making that up!?

I'm certainly not setting myself up fir a lifetime of struggle! I have my whole life ahead of me, and I'm not going to spoil my best summer yet by worrying about dieting. Maybe in September, but for now I'm content with dog walking, yard work, farm work and riding :D

And thanks :D

Hehe, If that's true I'll be jumping on the nearest shettie :D

I have yet to see pony, but will prob just be photographer!

I think you sound an amazing person TG. You obviously have a true zest for life. You respect other people, ask for their opinions and then listen to what they have to say, not an easy feat. Carry on enjoying the summer, September comes round quick enough-plenty of time for the serious stuff again then. Have fun!

What a shame that you see being fit and healthy as a negative thing - that getting that way will spoil your summer.

I'll never understand women.....

^^ this!(piedpiper) :) have a fab holiday TG, being fit and healthy is more important than your weight, if you eat well and exercise and you are happy - thats all that matters xxx

I am actually quite fit, as all the activities I'm doing show! And I'm not suddenly gorging myself simply cos it's sunny.

Ah, women... We are SUCH a mystery!

Thanks kitty! (nice to see you again :)) All the yard work, dog walking and riding I'm doing is making me quite fit!!

I'm not sure when this thread became a free for all to lecture TG about her weight and they ways in which she can lose some, there are plenty of people out there who aren't happy with their weight and they could do with the support which is being offered here, TG is clearly happy the way she is, so I think its a bit null and void telling her how she could lose weight, however kindly meant.

A couple of posts by me is hardly a free for all, nor a lecture.

Of course she's not happy, its the subject of just about every thread she starts.

And so what if others want support? Its irrelevant.

What on earth makes you think I was directing that solely at you WM?

It seems to me like she is saying she is happy
And for the record... I am comfortable and happy with how I look

and I'm simply suggesting spend your time helping those that ask you for help - just seems sensible to me, however you do what you like - it's your perogative ;)

It's a common worry for people who care about their horses-I ahve only ever saeen TG be sensable about her weight and life and TBH I wish I had been half as sensable at 16 as she is!

Truth is,TG is 16 and still growing. It would do a lot of damage for her to listen to you and anyone else sayign she must loose weight ASAP and go on a "diet" which as any woman who ahs had issues with their weight will tell you do not work long term anyway.
Cutting back on the snacks and treats, being active and having an active lifestyle will see TG shift any unwanted weight over time in a safe healthy way.
Nothing like yard work for getting you fit,and I would much rather be doing that then forceing myself into the gym esp at this time of year!

Exactly, simple things will do the world of good - no one said she should loose weight asap!

Obviously we agree on thatit's simple common sense :p and while it has not been said directly, people have been getting at it.
"Your much too overweight" "I am shocked you have to ask" "please think of your health" "seeting yourself up for a lifetime of problems" ect are not exactly well thought out responses to a young girl, are they?
I wonder what the responce would be if in a couple of months she had stopped eating/started throwing up to shift some weight-would you be pleased you were so cruel then?(and I know you are far too normal to do that TG! Just saying and hoping that the posters think a little about their choice fo words-next one may not be someone as well adjusted as you).

TG is a smart kid with her life ahead of her,she will do what she feels right and have a blast doing it :)

I agree but, overweight is overweight and it does damage ones health. OP knows this and would be better seeking advice from a nutritionalist. Cutting back on sugars etc is a start but not the full answer. Im sure she will go far, she has a great personality and is sure of herself.

It can increase risk over the years.
A restrictive diet WILL damage a growing body NOW- and she does not "need" to see anyone unless she wants to.
TG is an active person that does regular yard work,so clearly not a burger away from being a weeble-she is also 16,leave her alone.
I can think of no reason why an adult would want to pick on a teen about their weight in life or on a forum,it's disguesting behaviour.

There is a lot of sanctimonious twaddle on this thread. TG asked a simple question "am I too heavy for a 12hh". Nothing else, she certainly didn't ask for a critique of her appearance and lifestyle. Some of the answers are just downright rude, truly lacking in any empathy. I can only imagine some of you get a buzz out of venting your venom for others.

I completely agree, TG simply asked if she was too big for a small pony, she has accepted that she is, she did NOT ask for a comment on her lifestyle OR her weight, leave the kid alone FGS!

TG have a lovely holiday and post lots of photos.

I think that your question has been answered but 40 years ago my 15st mother rode my 12.2 welsh mountain pony home from a show when I had had a major sulk and wouldnt get on.

I have not picked on her in anyway whatsoever. Please, dont get your knickers in a twist for nothing. TG is happy, we are happy!
From what Ive seen, most of the Uk has problems with its weight. TW is in the norm therefore goes unnoticed. It would be beneficial to her and to the other x who are overweight to get rid of a few kilos. Sixteen or sixty, it can only do good.

Incorrect, you'll make anyone think they have to be anorexic if you carry on with that attitude and thats WORSE than having a small amount of fat on you. This is what's causing the girls and guys of the younger years to start having physical and mental issues with their image when all that matters is that you are HAPPY. Leave TG alone with your obsessiveness.

Enjoy your hols TG :)

^^^ This.

Im really shocked that this thread has taken this tone towards TG.

If I'd have had such comments against my weight/shape/looks/clothes.... anything at aged 16 I wouldnt have been able to take them as well as TG has on here. I hope she doesnt take them to heart

TG - Enjoy your holiday and forget those hurtful comments you have nothing to worry about, I cant wait to see all the pics you take and to hear what an amazing time you had. :D

First of all, I am NOT obsessed by other peoples weight, nor my own.
Secondly, I dislike the 'skinny' look.
Thirdly, carrying a relatively small amount of fat IS healthy
And lastly, had we been discussing (hypothesis) an overweight (I do realise we weren't) horse or pony, would everyone be saying that its okay so long as said animal is happy etc and that dieting a young equine isnt good due to the fact that it still has to grow?

Leaving the op aside, overweight in any species is not healthy and should be remedied. How many of us use grazing muzzles, starvation paddocks and why?
I wish TG a lovely holiday and hope to see lots of pics on her return!

Good GOD is this still going on?! TG is a lovely girl and all she wanted was an answer to her question. Not all this debating and snide marks. And also, would you rather see TG happy with how she is now, or a girl obsessed with her weight barely eating anything and feeling bad about herself?! If she's happy, she's happy, and I think she's fine! TG is a positive poster who contributes a lot to this forum, and I don't want to see her driven out of here like many others. It's sorted now, can we drop it? Please? xx

there are excruciatingly rude people on here... remarks i'd expect from the bitchy girls in my year at school, not adults!
When I was 13 I began eating only fruit salads because I decided I was too heavy to ride my favourite 13.2 pony. It was a very stupid decision and I only did it as I recieved some remarks about how I would squish him, etc. I hope that TG doesn't feel driven to do this!
She's a lovely girl who tries very hard and is a good rider from what I've seen. To criticise her on her appearance and weight is very, very rude. After all, who looks like Kate Moss in a pair of tight jodhpurs?! Not me, and I'm only 9 stone!
Leave her alone.
