am i too late to fertilize

really as title say. at my yard we have indiviual turnout unless you find someone to share with, i've been share with this person since january, since march we have been in my paddock and resting her. well this week she has gone back in her own paddock as my horse was chasing her. which is not a new thing he has always done it. so now i have no grass and she has a field full charming. so i could real do with fertilizing or my horse with be in a totally bare paddock in a months time. sorry for the rant gone totally of subject. so am i too late to fertilze?

i've split my field in half in hope that some of it will grow. so i thought i could do half at a time

Is it not possible for your "friend" to split her paddock for a few weeks so you are able to fertilize your paddock? I think its the least she could do after using your paddock all winter!

You can fertilise any time of the year, but the main ingredient afterwards required is water. It needs to break down and be absorbed into the soil then taken up by the grass, and only rain makes this happen.
I have spread by hand with a bucket before we had a tractor, but wear rubber gloves it stings on cuts!
Just wait at least ten days after a decent rainfall and you can graze it again.
