Hi peeps, I was thinking about applying to work with horses again as I miss it so much, I am 39 and left the horse world in 2000 I worked with them for over 15 yrs and have got a lot of experience (worked for monica campbell and John cottle both international show jumpers), do you think that I would get a job or am I too old??

(No rude comments please)

Never too old! As long as you are physically ok then I can't see why not. Lots of people would be grateful of a member of staff with so much experience!

ditto. go for it.

One of the best people I ever employed was 61 and lived in the local old people's home

She had spent her life working with hunters and driving horses, and she was fantastic, very thorough, and taught me loads about lungeing and long reining. At about the same time I was also employing a 42 year old woman who was coming back to work after raising her children. Both had a fantastic attitude to work, and it was great having more mature people about the yard.

Go for it!

I've been thinking exactly the same thing!!! I'm 32 and ended up working for our family business 10 years ago while finishing my degree and I've been stuck here ever since!!

i also did a break i am 33 and i worked with horses for years and years and i am back since march and i now have a couple of yards that i do teaching for. my break was 11 years.

although i was in pain after the first couple of rides but grand now.

Never too old, however, I think problems may occur with possibly having a younger employer or working with younger people with (a distinct possibility given your past experience) less experience than yourself. It depends mightily on the individual workplace and people involved.

I most certainly would be happy to employ people with 'miles on the clock' as it were, but have great respect for anyone with experience, and/or enthusiasm(regardless of their age)

If that's what you want to do, why not? Good Luck to you.

If you can afford it go for it. I wish I had when I had the chance (thought I was too old, etc etc etc). Now, well, I tell myself in two or three years time when the businesses can take care of themselves.... So long as you're fit and well and, hate to say this bit, but can cope if somethng drastic happens, then go for it

We employ people who are maybe not the first and most obvious choice, but who have turned out to be the best. Now, if I were allowed, I'd choose to go for those who might not be the first choice by others.

Have lots of fun and let us know how it goes
