Paddy and i are getting a little bit keen on the thought of maybe doing a bit of dressage , he is still doing some jumping with another rider , but he's so laid back and such a lovely traveller that i'm thinking about what to do with him after his jumping pal goes off to Uni. He is really good in the school , listens and reacts nicely to transistion aids etc but at the grand old age of 42 ( me not Paddy ) I would have to start at the very begining i.e intro stuff. Am i going to look like a complete muppet?
There is a local - ish Cornish Dressage group , not far from me , and i do have a sand school all to myself for secretly practising so what does anyone think??

I think you should go for it :D
I did 2 prelims on my daughter's old pony last year at the age of 37 and the only time I'd done a dressage test before was at the age of about 14 on a riding holiday!

What have you got to lose:)

My mum started with 12yr old ex race horse thoroughbred at 45yrs .... So in answer to you question, no :-)
She went on to buy a 14yr old Dutch schoolmaster, then after losing the thoroughbred suddenly (dropped dead in the field) she bought a just backed 4tr old Danish Holstein who she got up to advanced Medium.
She's now 65yrs, still has the youngster (17 now), plus a stunning and very talented 10yr old Sressage horse.... She does herself a disservice and says her current competition horse is something she should of had 5yrs ago.
Go for it, my mum had never done dressage when she started, and it's become a total passion, and she's an inspiration to her friends :-)

Thanks guys , have had a look at the Cornish Dressage website - it's OLNY £10 to join so I'll get signed up and just go along for a nosey first...

Never too old! Age is just a number...well I'm 16, I can see me changing my mind in a few years..ha ha

but go on do it, have fun :D I see tons of old folk competing ;) harhar I think I need a slap for that comment!

Good luck and keep us updated on how you get on :D
