Am I too old

Nope - not too old! The wife has had horses as long as I've known her and always felt like I was helping out doing the hard stuff without any benefits. I had the chance to get a great horse and started to learn proper in Jan 2012.

I turned 41 in July. And am confident/skilled enough to go out hacking without the wife and her TB now (though it's not as entertaining).

If there's one piece of important advice I can give you, from one male to another - make sure you have the correct "underwear" (sufficiently padded in all the right places), as rising trot can be a b!tch when you're learning.

...good luck and enjoy.

Oh yes, forgot to mention that :D My hubby soon discovered that it's much more 'comfy' with the appropriate undergarments :)

my hubby is nearly 50 and has become so enthusiastic helping me with my boys that he has bought himself a 20 years young schoolmaster to learn on!

Good for you!! enjoy!!!

No way are you too old!!

My boyfriend started riding when he met me at 30 and 4 years later is dressage mad, he gets some comments about only gay men enjoying dressage but he ignores it. He absolutely loves riding and would quite happily ride all day every day. In fact he rides my horse more than I do.

He wears long boots and breeches but jeans are fine at the beginning. Get some recommendation's on where to learn though as that can make a big difference.
