Am I too tall?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I look too tall on my horse? I’m getting a bit of a complex about it as I previously had 16.1 warmblood, but sold him for an easier ‘more suited to a family with small children’ type of horse. He’s lovely! But only 14.2 (I was ideally looking for 15.2-16.2). I’m 5’7 and I just couldn’t pass him up as he was so sweet, so I compromised on the height. But now I’m starting to wonder if I look silly on him?

To me you look at little tall but certainly not too heavy on him but then again I am 5'8" and used to ride my daughter's 14:2 all the time as he was so much fun :) I also used to ride my 13:2 when I was this height as a teenager

Not at all, you look great on him.... I have a 14 hh cob, maybe 14.1..... and I am 5'7 with stupidly long legs.... I used to worry about my size but we actually are fine together..

You look great but I'm another who thinks you could pop your stirrups down a hole or two. I think it's tempting to shorten your stirrups on a smaller horse to make your legs look shorter but it can be counter-productive.

I think you look a tad too tall but not in a bad way, your very slight so can easily ride a 14.2. I agree with others though, if you put your stirrups down it will change your seat position for the better.

I'm 5'7 or 5'8 and i wouldn't ride anything less than 15.2 minimum. I rode a friends 14.2 the other day and i felt horrendously big on her but then im a guy so weigh more than you. I wouldnt sweat it, if you enjoy them then crack on :)

I don’t think you look too tall at all. I’m 6ft (only weigh about 60kg though) and rode a 15.2 for three years! Now riding a “16.1” who is more like a 15.3!

I think you look fine - mainly because I look pretty similar on my 14.3 cob and everyone assured me look good together.

But question - do you find that your height makes cantering more difficult? Shorter people seem to canter my horse better and even though I can canter bigger horses fine I have to work extra hard on my balance on my smaller cob?

No, you look a perfect size.

Me, 5'7 on a 13.3hh (I'd say I'm slightly too big for her bc of my leg length so compared to me you're fine!)
