Had a break through tonight and got pony to canter off a circle at last. He is so much fitter now and seems to be finding work easier. So do I start thinking about working to a very basic test? We have previously come 2nd in walk and trot so its only going to be the next step up. I know its not a very high standard but I enjoy it

I recently did the Pony Club walk and trot test and managed to win it

But I'm giving it a go

If I can do it at my age on a 28 year old Section D who is a typically built Section D at that then anyone can

ETA That sounded mean but isn't meant that way

At prelim level its not really a competition thing but more of a good way of telling how you and your horse is coming along so I would certainly encourage it. You will be able to read the judge's comments and work on them to improve on your progress. Go for it and enjoy it!

I know what you meant

. TBH I'm of the opinion that if I can do well in a walk and trot anyone can. My riding leaves a lot to be desired but I try hard

I practised the BD test today for the first time and it was 'interesting' shall we say

Went through it 3 times before I could even get any where near what it should be like

Kept missing bits out

Ah well at least there's plenty of room ( and time) for improvement between now and the 28th

I'm going to on my new girl asap as the comments are great to have and let me know what to work on and will (hopefully!) be a record of progress

I think you should definitely do it. I would love to do a walk and trot test some time if I can pluck up the courage. How do you find out where they are being held in your own area? I've never seen them advertised around here. Maybe everyone else is a much better rider than me in East Yorks? Wouldn't be hard!

Oooh you do yourself down
mad.gif
. I bet your riding is loads better than you give yourself credit for
smile.gif
. You need to look for unaffiliated dressage classes. I think a lot of them do walk and trot. Would have thought your instructor would know.
