I feel a bit daft... but... ! I loaned my daughters much-loved ponio out 3 or so months ago to a seemingly lovely family - orgeous yard, all the others really really well looked after. Contract etc... at first, they kept in touch frequently, Ive been up to see him, really settled etc... but struggling to get hold of them for the last 3 or so weeks... texted a few times, called, no answer, once did get an answer but the loaner was at work and said she'd call me back - nothing... Ive called twice since with no answer, left a voicemail and emailed.... am I over-reacting?
 
Oh, how worrying for you. Is it too far away for you to pay a visit? How about contacting the YO just to find out if things are ok. I would be concerned too so no, you are not worrying about nothing.

Let us know when you know something.

It's a fair way... only let him go as everything was so good... yard is their own place, beautiful place, they have a couple of liveries... OH pointed out it is holiday season etc... loaner had him for her grandaughter - have met everyone etc and very happy with place - great contact until now so....

Ditto. You know where the horse is. You've been trying to get hold of them with no luck. The next route is a cold call.
 
Daisychain - I've definaltely not been phoning them every 5min - more like every fortnight, which is hardly OTT! they've also been calling me with updates for shows etc, been really nice to hear how much more confidence his new jockey is getting from him.
Cold call may be next option, they're about 65 miles away, so isn't an immediate option. I don't want to worry over nothing, nor do I want to annoy anyone by turning up out of the blue! empted to give it till the end of the month but all the horror stories I've heard are making me twitchy. On the other hand I've been a 'loaner' before, and quite amazed how I never heard a thing from her owner for 2 years!
 
Im sorry but i would be worried ! You will need to investigate further to keep on top of things. Go to the yard or something. Just seems a little weird to me. Its not hard for someone to answer a phone or voice mail, so why arnt they ??
 
I think you have the right idea, give them a little longer, how about sending a message saying that you were going past there area in the near future and just wanted to call in and say hi. That may prompt them into responding.
This is your horse and you just want piece of mind and its better to be reassured than worry yourself.

If they know you are trying to get in touch and haven't returned your calls then I think you should be worried and not leave it.
I have had 3 bad experiences of loaning though haven't lost a horse thankfully.
Go see him and please let us know!
 
Tre... yes, think that would be a good answer. Not easy to do the trip on spur of the moment, everything has been absolutely fine until now. Trying to be practcsl, it is summer, holidays etc, she did answer the phone on 10th but was at work - Ive only left the voicemail tonight so I guess I need be practical. The yard is private - belongs to them, not somewhere I can just wander on - electric gates also might cause a wee bit of an issue! I have the contract filed away, with her witnesses address too, so maybe a bit of digging. I do tend to fret I think, but he is a precious part of my family Thanks guys :-)

I have to say, that if they are aware you are trying to speak to them, and they haven't made any attempt to get in touch themselves - 65 miles or no - I'd be driving up there.

If the pony has gone walk abouts - the end of the month is even longer for them to have covered their tracks.

Sorry to be alarmist.
