On friday I emailed the loan contract over to the people who are having Rhyn (meant to be taking him 18th aug) and asked them to get back to me about it. I haven't heard from them since monday last week when they emailed to say how excited their son was about getting the new pony and they couldn't wait.

I'm going away tomorrow and wanted to have the contract sorted by then. Have tried to ring them a couple of times and just get the "this person's phone is not available now, please try later" message...would you be worrying?

Personally think it's a bit odd, although there's probably a perfectly plausible reason for it. Email address is a home address not work so it's not that they don't have email access over the weekend.

Am I worrying over nothing? I saw them last weekend and they were dead keen, visited their yard etc and they seemed decent enough people so I would like to think they'd have called if something had changed....

You could try texting them and putting on a delivery report so that you know if the text goes through? that way you know if the phone is turned on?

CC my first loanees were terrible like this...I would just keep trying to contact them and leave messages if you can...
try not to panic...like you said there is normally a reason why they have not been in touch...

I can't leave a message, just get the "not currently available try later" message. My mum's phone does this when that's either switched off or out of signal/range, so it could be something like this hopefully.

I suppose they might have gone away for the weekend! Emailed them friday night (fairly late), and I guess if they've been away or just v busy they might well not have even looked at emails.

The last thing the guy said when I was at their place on sat was "see you on the 18th", which is when they pick him up....

is there any way you could go to their house and just say you have the contract on you...?
Dont want it to seem like you are being too full on but otherwise only other alternative...just say you could not get hold of them then at least you would know if they are still interested...
can you also post the contract before you go away....they will def get it then and you could put a note in saying u couldnt get hold of them....

IMO you are worrying over nothing. You sent something on friday night and it is now sunday evening. They could easily have been away for the weekend, and forgotten their mobile charger, or want to check the contract with someone at work, or anything.

Personally, I think that expecting them to sign and return a contract in two days is a little optimistic.

If you;ve checked averything else out about them then wouldn't worry. As long as you're happy with where they are keeping him and that they are capable of looking after him to your standards then the paperwork in reality means very little if they are crooks!

Not suggesting they are but I once loaned a gelding to what I thought was a completely appropriate place, loads of paperwork and then after six months they phoned me up to say they'd tied him to their garden gate, he'd pulled it pff it's hinges and run down street with it and they were bringing him back next day!
Then they did, despite loan agreement stating a notice period. I tried to get them to cover cost of livery for the notice period but they wouldn't pay and it wasn't worth pursuing.

Am sure if you are happy with everything else the paperwork will follow.

They could be on a fortnight's holiday....you may have to wait till the 18th if they weren't specifically epxecting you to contact them before this...hope it all works out!

I never said I was expecting them to sign it and return it in two days...my email to them said just print off and bring with you when you come to pick the pony up on the 18th....

If you read my OP again you won't see anywhere in there that I'd said I expected it to be signed and returned, just that I couldnt get hold of them.....

I think so....have been round their yard, been to their house, they took me to the Kennels and I met some of the hunt staff, met the people who look after the Hunt horses. Also seen their current (5!) horses who are all happy, healthy, good feet etc, so I'm sure he will be fine with them.

Unfortunately I am inclined to panic about every little thing (I go on hols this afternoon and I woke up in a cold sweat thinking about customers I forgot to reply to on friday, whether I'd put my out of office on my emails, forgot to book the lab for a demo when I get back.....

I expect they are enjoying the school holidays with their children or out doing farmy things like making hay?

Yep, that's what I think is probably happening now I've stopped panicking Spans!

They have a load of horses to get fit for the coming season after having the summer off too, so probably run off their feet!

It's only been a couple of days, they could have a problem with their mobile and not everyone checks their emails daily!
