found a livery yard close to me. has indoor school and 2 outdoor and horsewalker. has fantastic hacking, stables are lovely etc etc. it has individual turnout (one thing which i dont like

) so you can basically do what you want with your paddock etc

its £25 a week for DIY plus £10 for all hay and straw (though will have to check that up) so it all sounds really good BUT its a riding school as well and i`ve been a livery at a riding school before and it was hell because you could never get in the school etc

and... i dont know whether i`ll regret moving from the yard i`m at at the moment cos of the people. however thats the only good thing about it (and cos its close to where the bus goes 4 college

)

so i really dont know

I think that the facilities at the new yard sound fantastic. I keep my horses at home but if I had to find a livery yard, I think that this would be my ideal. Individual turnover sounds great too - I'm sure that they would still be able to see the horses in the adjacent fields. Would you be allowed to pair up with another livery to share a field?

Are there any specific rules relating to the use of the arenas? As long as you can have access to the indoor in the winter, I wouldn't have thought that this would be such a problem with two outsdoor schools as well!

The price sounds fairly good to.

Where abouts is this yard?

well how do the facilities compare to your yard?

i personally would never be at a riding school on livery - not my sort of thing. Its up to you in the long run.....

I'd have to weigh up more pro's and cons for both yards before making a decision.

I was on a livery yard combined riding school and the schcool was only busy till 4pm at weekends which meant I could use it after that and during the week.
The down side was kids everywhere feeding your horse god knows what so I had to put a sign on my door saying not to be fed. (and I still had to chase some kids)
Otherwise it was great... in fact when the riding school part closed down the kids were a big miss.

The price for DIY with all those amenities is very good, it also depends on why you want to be considering leaving your present yard.

A good yard with friendly and trustworthy people is hard to find.

well my yard has a awful school with no drainage. rains for half hour and its flooded. its got a busy road outside and although we have got some fields they arent brilliant. however it is within hacking distance to two good shows (although at this other yard they do DR and SJ shows)

dont know the liveries but have competed there quite a few times, qualified for the uk chaser, seems like a really well run place, nice facilities and everyone seemed friendly enough!!

Looks really nice, with lots going on. You could join in lessons and if the school is busy on an evening you could always see about riding early in the morning in the winter.

Yer you would have an instructor there! Well if there are 3 schools and you have your own field, hacking and horsewalker there are plenty of places to ride or exercise!
I livery at a riding stables. Good because theres experienced people there, but bad because of the school (2 small outdoor- :[ ..although generally 1 is used for lesson and other for livery) the kids arent so bad..
You would probably make new friends, but i personally would hate leaving other people and going on my own!
Its really hard, but good luck, i'm sure you will make the right desision, and in the end, its up to what is best for your horse!

Hi, We've competed there several times, & also hired one of their outdoor arenas. The surface in the indoor arena is 'Martin Collins' & the 2 outdoor schools are sand & rubber. The people appear very friendly. It seems like a nice place to have your horse at. I doubt if you'll have any problems & you'd enjoy it there. With 1 indoor & 2 outdoor schools I expect you would always be able to find somewhere to ride.

we have a riding school/livery yard and keep the riding school side seperate so that the clients have no need to walk around the liveries horses. also we have gates on yards which we always shut. you should check out and see if they allow the kids to be on the yards before you dismiss it
