sometimes the pro's aren't even riding the horses themselves...they have yard staff / riders to do that. This is the case at one major yard in the south east, with resident Olympic trainer that another poster mentioned.
I know another international pro, who would never dream of getting on one of her sales horses. That risky job is for the staff. Yet they are sold as being produced by this pro. Most were pretty average and way overpriced.
Another CON with a pro, is if they have their own private yard, anything can go on behind closed doors. Vets will come and go and see/treat the horses, yet no one will be the wiser of any problems / health issues the horse has. It's all done very secretively. I've seen this happen, vet comes in, it's all a big secret as to what is wrong with the horse, no one is allowed in the school, doors are all closed. Then the horse is on box rest etc, and having emergency physio treatments. Then it is ridden intensely on Danilon for a week or two, then advertised for sale. It happens.
An amateur's horse would be on a shared yard, and whether they like it or not, probably everyone on the yard knows if the horse has / had issues in the past.
