Amateur one horse owners - how many times a month do you compete?

Probably compete (dressage) once or twice a month (but don't bother in the winter), also like to go on pleasure rides, maybe a bit of XC schooling. What I do use transport for a lot is training...........at least once a week - weather permitting of course!

I try to get out every weekend although its not always to compete......hunting, clinics, XC schooling with friends or just a lesson at my trainers yard for a change of scenery. I think I probably actually compete about once a month in the winter and about 3 times a month in the spring/summer/autumn.

Not as much as I think!! Since June last year I did two ODEs and have been BSJA twice - which is scandalous!!!

Really need to pull my finger out and do more - I am so lazy! Sadly the appeal of waiting around BSJA in winter is not really appealing

Just been sorting my competitions out and we are out pretty much every week from May through to October. Then there are 6 stay over shows, and 7 weekends we are out more than one day over the weekend.

I'm just glad this year I will have the wagon - It feels like such hard work in a trailer. Also had to justify the new build wagon to non horsey husband.

Not strictly an amateur one horse owner - I have 2 horses but am definitely amateur!!

I try to get each horse out every couple of weeks most of the year. The only difference for me is that if one horse is out of action, I still have another to compete which does help justify the existence of the lorry!

If you have the transport it's so much easier to get out and about you're bound to do it more often.

Sorry, can't add to your list as I don't know that area at all I'm afraid.

Well... I have two but definitely amatuer I go somewhere at least 2 x a week but that includes unaff sj, dressage, xc schooling and BE on top of all the pc gymkhanas , rallies and team training things - sometimes 3 or even 4 x in the summer

I am aiming to get out about twice a month to compete and also a couple of times a month to hack somewhere new. This is my first year of competing though so am not really sure. They are my plans though!

i was contemplating the exact same thing re a lorry.

I compete RC level as often as cash allows, usually twice a month through winter with the odd days hunting, and in summer 2-4 times a month depending on whats on.

I am taking pony away for a long weekend also, and doing the 3 day event at milton keynes so am going to get fair use out of a lorry this year.

If i was paying the average rate of £100 per day for a self drive box i would definately buy one, however i am very lucky that i have one for £50 or £25 each if sharing plus diesel so really until i am on a more comfortable pay packet (hours been reduced due to business being so slow) i will just keep borrowing lorries. It is definately my aim to buy one at some point as i use them regularly so would rather be investing in my own.
