Amateur/Semi Pro's/Professionals ~ Websites?

For all of you who have/or would like websites to represent you as a rider what do you look for in a site?

Do you feel confident to build and design yourself or would you/do you prefer to do it yourself?

It has got to be easy to navigate and look professional enough but to be honest it is the content that keeps me revisiting, WFP a great one for updating and to be honest that is what people like about mine the regular updates despite it not being the most professional around.

It's not the best, and I'm thinking of changing a few things, but I (personally) think that it's quite easy to find what you're looking for on it, which I like.

Easy to navigate, updated and slick are the main things for me. I made my own and make others on occasion. DIY sites are fine but they need to look polished.

I also recently created www.rosiechinery.com which I made easy to update so Rosie can do all her own updates and create new pages etc easily.

Another HHOer I have been assisting with theirs which the webhost software provided by the design company is awful. Far too easy to accidentally ruin the site and not easy to fix or update in terms of content. Worst thing for me is they have done some very high profile sites. I'm rather savvy web design wise and was appalled as not easy for the amateur but then I suppose if the site gets mucked up try can charge extra to repair it!!

/\ /\ This, if it is not regularly updated it is a bit useless really. It is good when it has useful info to, not just 'this is me and my horse'. SJ's site is ace

I really had no idea what I was doing but encouraged by others (particularly Wormy's site), I built my own using weebly, the only thing I'd say is it's quite tempting to do too much, then you have to keep it up to date! A website needs to be easy to navigate, look professional and be updated regularly. My website isn't particularly good, but it is more in a way for myself (I find it good to log things like competitions reports and any lessons/exercises so I can reinforce them into my own head). I built mine using weebly, and at the moment it isnt particularly good as I am not regularly out competing, but once I am i hope to keep it more exciting and hopefully it will be more worth a read!!
