Strange goings on today at the yard....
Story starts last July when our RS (with added liveries) bought a pretty little skewbald gypsy vanner type mare. My friend and her daughter fell in love with her, loaned for a while then bought her at the end of August. We bought our boy in October and the girls, both 13 yrs, ride together in lessons and at the weekend, while us mums get to ride in the week. Then a few weeks ago Penny went lame, 2/10, diagnosed probably bruised sole near fore, so rest and now just walking. At the yard today, they were brushing her and noticed a "lump" on her side. To touch it felt like fluid, gurgling could be heard so they called YO. By then we could all see some movement in her side....decided vet advice was needed...could it be a foal, or spasmodic pain free (mare very calm and happy to be fussed) ?colic....?????
Well the vet has checked her, and yes it's a foal! Probably due next month so Penny is going to be so pampered!!! You hear of these things, but still amazing! She's been hiding it so well!:D
P.S. Our boy is not the daddy!! (unless......Nooooooo)

Fantastic news- I sense a 'Penny BOGOF' thread to take over from the 'Tessybear BOGOF' thread once Mini T arrives... We can all coo over Mini T whilst waiting for Mini P!!

Yay ! Will be nice to compare foalies and see them grow up together on here give your friend a comforting hug from us I know how much of a bloomin' shock it is :o

Glad to read that everyone is excited, I am sure your daughters will love to have a little one to fuss over, more excitement for forum watches to find out what foal is like - another mystery dad.

My daughter is now back from the yard with an update. According to the vet the foal is due within 2 weeks. The YO's dad, who bought the mare last July, has now said there was a stallion in the field with the mares, a ?bay/skewbald 16hh stallion  Penny is only 13.2hh so hope she will be ok.
Penny is used to living out 24/7 but has now been brought in to one of the foaling boxes, evicting big Will rather than grumpy 18hh+ Gilli who owns the other "foaling" box. Must ask about photos!

Aww wow congratulations! Pics are a must! Of mum+baby when he/she arrives :)
We now have 2 foalies to look forward too, well as far as I know anyway lol :p

Wow, so soon, not long to wait then! How exciting for you all, and how fortunate that there is a foaling box available. Disturbed nights ahead!

When I was young (a long time ago) we bred our 13.3 fell mare to TB 16.2 and had a lovely 15.2 homebred for us to grow into!

When I was in my teens, I had a new pony that we thought just had a grass belly. She arrived with us on the Saturday and the following weekend she had a foal! Your post made me smile as I had totally forgotten this until now. Gave the everyone a shock!

Sorry, having trouble with photobucket, but will try to get some photos on here.
Have found this one; Penny is the little skewbald, our boy is in the middle and in the foreground is yet another mum/daughter share.

Sorry, but can't upload more recent pics :(

Congrats! How exciting-2 honorary HHO BOGOF babies!
(I think someone needs to set up an equine Foal Support Agency,to chase up these irresponsible absentee fathers...:D)
Best of luck for the foaling to your friend and Tessybear also:)

Congratulations, cant wait, will it stop me being broody for more babes (equine or cannine ) look forward to hearing good news.

Slightly irrational but am I the only one a little disappointed to own a gelding and therefore not have the amazingly exciting problem!!

Congratulations I hope all goes well :)

... wish I'd "accidentally" let my mare in with the stallion at my last job now. I want a surprise foal. I'm secretly hoping there's a crazy chance that the very late cut gelding she was with might have somehow been fertile. I know it's not possible but still... He was giving her a full covering!

No, my daughter is jealous of her friend...till she gets worried about what could go wrong...and then switches back to being excited and thinking of names :D
I am glad I have a gelding though, less stress!

Hi, No news today I'm afraid. Hopefully one of us will get to the yard tomorrow, but depends on my doctors appointment (follow up as I'm recovering from pneumonia) and I'm not driving atm. Would like to get some more photos, and have a feeling it will be next week...when the girls have gone back to school :p

Thanks, am feeling better everyday, just get a bit out of breath if I overdo things.
Penny has bagged up a bit, not as full as Tessy, and no wax. Vet did say approx. 2 weeks, that was Sunday 7th, so could be a week or more yet. Her tail bone is more obvious now, and foalie is a wriggler!
Update on Dad...YO has contacted previous owner and the latest story is that there was a piebald cob stallion, around 14.2hh in the neighbouring field...so NOT a 16hh stud! (*sigh of relief*)

Penny looking big last night, and her owner says her shape has changed again...and I forgot to enter the sweepstake today!

big belly

Then she said hello properly
