OH has just been asked to spend some time this summer in Austria training with Arthur Kottas!

He has suggested we take both Blitz and Diva.

We were always considering the option of spending some time abroad with the horses this summer before starting a family towards the end of the year. Kind of like a last fling before finally growing up!

However this opportunity has come at exactly the right time, but it is slightly further away than we originally anticipated.

I will be going as well in my capacity as general dogsbody, groom, sh1t shoveller etc

So although it's not quite the sunshine tour it is very exciting and we are now looking into transport etc.

So does anyone have any idea how long it would take to travel the horse to Vienna? And more importantly the cost?

Also do you think we should drive or fly and then hire a car?

Any advice would be gratefully received

That is absolutely amazing... I think you should leave Danny with me and I will ensure he gets lots of cuddles and love

Serioiusly though, if you are not travelling with the horses, I would get a cheap easy jety flight booked asap and hire a car while you are over there. Will you be flying into Innsbruk? Easy Jet have started flying into that airport now!

OMG what a brilliant opportunity indeed!!!!!!!!

I have never travelled a horse to Austria, but have done Southern Spain and back a good few times and you can get 1st class transport there for around £800 all in. I HIGHLY recommend Kevin Scott - I know he isn't near you but he picks up all over the country and goes everywhere, so give him a call

wow, how fantastic, congrats! what a wonderful opportunity. *sick with envy*
i'd put your place and vienna into multimap, see how long it says it'll take, and then add about 50%.
took my mare to a place near Bonn in Germany for a 3-day years ago, and it was only 10 hours from Calais... it would have taken longer to drive to the top of Scotland.
if you have your own box, why not drive there yourselves? or, drive and follow the box. i would have thought you'd want your own transport there tbh.

If he is still here he can come and stay with you

Although someone is looking at him on Saturday so fingers crossed!

I think we will probably fly as if we have the dates well in advance we can book cheapish flights with Easyjet!

I was gobsmacked when Mark rang and told me.

I am not surprised you are looking forwards to it, what an opportunity!!!

Thanks Weezy will get in touch with them, I break up in 24th July so are aiming to go as close to then as possible as school starts again on 1st September. (I swear summer holidays are getting shorter!

Thanks I am excited all ready!

We do have our own lorry but I don't think either of us fancy sharing the drive as it is such a long way, also our lorry is not a swish modern one and I would worry that they would travel badly and get hot etc, etc

Right... I'll just jump in the little Kia Piccanto I have been given as a courtesy car (some idiot has taken my wing mirror off making it 'unroadworthy'

) and I'll be there before 2pm on Saturday!!!

Wow sounds great, I'm not too sure about going out of this country but I moved back from Italy in 2006 and brought my horse back with me. I couldn't do the trip by myself so I ended up using a company called John Parker International who sorted out all the paperwork etc the only sticking point is you have to be fairly flexible with your dates (my friend ended up loading mine as i flew out a couple of days beforehand!!!) The cost was about £950 but it took a few days. Don't know if this is any help but good luck.

I must admit she did drop a bit of weight as the trip took a few days but overall she didn't look too bad or seem that stressed out by it. Also the company and drivers were is constant contact with me and my friend who was in Italy (as the place we were at was a bit off the beaten track). Do your horses travel well???

That is reassuring, both are excellent travellers who never get hot or upset. I guess weightloss is the norm, maybe I could travel with them to speed up my weightloss programme

oh and that price included the VAT as well and they will take your tack if you want them too ( I did because I couldn't bring it on the plane!!!!!!!!!). Also just to give you a fair idea if you are thinking about driving we did from the UK to Naples in under two days (including ferry crossing). Hope this helps if you need anymore info PM me.

xx

How amazing!

Hope you have a good time- The rules for driving lorries etc. in Austria, but if you would like some information I have alot that we got from the british embassy as the Junior Cariiage driving world championships is there later in the year so our transport is sorted.
