I was looking through some old photo's and found pictures of the horse my Mom rescued many years ago. I have seen the picutres before but not for a long time and was shocked at the amazing turn around that happened.

My Mom and Dad took up riding in their 20's. After a couple of years lessons my Dad said he would buy my Mom a horse - they were both still pretty novicey so were looking for something sensible, but when my Mom saw this horse she just felt so, so sorry for him she persuaded my Dad to buy him as he was going to be PTS. It was really touch and go for the first few months and Mom reckons he only survived through eating carrots as wouldn't touch anything else. He was full of redworm and vet had told my Mom there wasn't much hope for him. The farrier said it was a really noble thing that she had done but he thought it was a bit like going to the scrap yard to buy a car. However she persevered and well you can see for yourself what she achieved.

Lincoln lived well into his 30's and lived a very happy life.
Although I was not even thought about when any of this happened I am really proud of my Mom for what she did.
Has anyone else got any home rescue stories? Would be great to see them.

Aw bless your mum for not giving up on him he was a very beautiful horse, i cannot believe the state he was in! she worked wonders on him. x

Firstly what an amazing thing your mum did for that horse when everyone else would have prob given up on him.
My pony Lucy was a rescue pony twice. She was born on the welsh hills and was badly neglected and beatern in her first two homes. In the first home they just starved her but in the second home the kids from the local village used to go to her field and throw bricks and bottles at her and the owner tried to break her in and because she was difficult he just beat her up alot. The lady who had her before me drove from reading to wales in the middle of the night and took her and another one out the field. She rang the owner the next day and told him she had his ponies and if he wanted to take her to court he could but she had enough evidance on the look of the ponies alone to have him done for animal crulety. He took no action and she kept the ponies. The lady ran a riding school and the other pony was used for lessons but Lucy was a very different story she was difficult to handle. She was kept as the owners pet but when she became overstocked somethimg had to go and as Lucy wasn't earning her keep it had to be her. She was going to be sold for meat but when i heard about her i perswaded my mum i had to have her. (luckly my mum knows nothing about horses so she bought her for me) We paid £500 inclu all tack and rugs. so we prob only paid £50 for the pony! When she was delivered everyone realised what a mistake my mum had made. I was 14 and had only been riding for just over a year and i had bought a pony who would attack you everytime you went in the field with it and i mean proper attack she would come at you flat out then spin round and through both back legs at you. Everyone told me to give up on her and have her shot. But i refused to give up on her. I went to the field everyday and just sat on the gate and looked at my pony. The funny thing is the more people told me to give up on her the more deturmind it made me to prove them all wrong. So i started trying to build up Lucys trust so she would let me go in the field with her and after 6 months i was able to catch her. Then i spent another 6 months just getting her in and grooming her before i started riding her. I fell off her atleast once a day for the first year and everyone was still laughing at me telling me to have her put down. Well i bought Lucy in 1998 and i still have her today. She is atleast 20 years old now and has given me the best 12 years of my life we have showjumped, been showing, done dressage, been hunting, done endurance rides of upto and inclu 80km and so much more. We have the most amazing bond and she trusts me with her life as i trust her with mine. She is my best friend in the whole world i can't imagen life without her and I am so glad i didn't listen to all thoughs who told me to give up on her. She is my pony of a lifetime.

Firstly thanks for all the lovely responses I will pass them on to my Mom.
Secondly really well done to LauraWheeler and RosienPrince. It’s horrible to think that any horses can be neglected this way but it lovely to know there are sometimes happy ending for some lucky ones.
If or when I could finance I would love to rescue and rehome.
