So Rafi is a dutch warmblood . He has some great horses that I knew abut in his breeding , such as Marco Polo/Le Mexico/Concorde/Voltaire .Then I looked further back and came across Macaroni[who won the 1863 Derby ] and Eclipse and Hyperion and you can trace back to the 1600's. I wish my family tree was so interesting . Anyone interested

Then just click on any horse on the right hand side and go another 5 generations back and so on. Hope it works for you

I have done this for my mare, i find this kind of this thing really interesting. Especially when they go as far back as the foundation TB and arab stallions.

We did this when we got our ex-racer. Then we googled all the names in his pedigree...we found out some fascinating details...and were quite in awe of his amazing breeding...it is great fun.

St simons skeleton is in te british museum and i believe Hyperions is in the horse racig museum in newmarket if it is anywhere. St Simon ( an absolute champion racehorse and even better sire was used in a display comparing human and horse anatomy so his was pretty good as well.
and warm bloods were originally carriage horse they were mixed with a bit of TB to refine them EXCEPT trakheners who were descended from the Prussian cavalry horse and they aways had plenty of blood and stamina from exported TB's and arabs.

It is fascinating. Traced my old boy years ago helped by info at the Horseracing Museum in Newmarket. Found that one of his relatives was killed in an uprising in Belgium or France (can't remember which), the stables were firebombed and the horse would not leave the box. I agree with OP that I know so little about my own family compared to the horse - it is a bit sad really particularly as have no family left to ask now.

Ditto above plus my Welsh D x TB allrounder is related to Ramiro through his TB side - funny or what. I often take much joy in pointing out to snotty warmblood club at my yard that their neds are in fact traceable to a good deal of TB's.

When I researched the mare, I found the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe winner in her pedigree, very apt now she resides in France.

My Connemara by Abbeyleix Owen goes back to all the Gololphin Arabian, Brylerly Turk and the Darley Arabian the dam side of his sire has Eclipse popping up all over the place! What does strike me though is how inbred thouroughbreds were when you get back to the 1700's!

I did this and found that 2 of my previous horses were related - even though one was a big belg warmblood and the other a tiny tb mare ! - the same french stallion was used in about the 1700's !

Thanks for this, I now have a name for one of my mare's foals and I've always hoped to find out about them. It also appears that my two horses (one anglo-arab and one danish) share a great great grandsire.

I did this for a horse i used to ride (FARO - Belgian Warmblood) and went back abouy 8 or 9 generations and am still researching and having to brush up on my european language skills in order to make those enquiries and I can't wait to do it for my boy (BROADOAK CHESTER - KWPN) although I think for ches its only going to be his sire's (VDL WELLINGTON) side we are going to be able to trace
