I weaned my mare and foal this morning. Just loaded mare up into horsebox and drove off. Foal did not even raise her head from grazing and mare shouted a couple of times from the lorry and a couple of times at new yard but tbh I think she was so pleased to see hay in stable and lovely grass in new field that she chose that over her baby! Bad mummy.

Mind you mare has lost so much condition poor girl - she was well and truly ready to get shot of her baby.

I have taken a couple of pictures of her as it will be interesting to compare the before and after pictures in a couple of months...

That's what I did. My boy didn't even care... As long as it is done at the right time there shouldn't be any trauma - it's a natural process :)
