Amber and Suzzie at the vets today

Both went in today. Amber is less lame today than when the vet last saw her. But her xrays revealed that she has osteochondritis diccecans (abnormal development of articular cartilage or, basically, arthritis). So she is in for surgery tomorrow to remove the excess bone. Vet is confident that she will make a full recovery.

The only thing is that when I brought her I was told she had been bred for racing, but never in training as there had been a delay in getting her papers sorted (she has a wetherbys NTR passport). But OCD is very common in racehorses or those in training- so now I wonder if she was raced. I think I can safely say I was had though.

Suzzie has had her broken tooth removed although the root is still there. We need to take her back in a month to see if the root is weakened enough to remove without a full operation.

Have realised that tomorrow is the 26th and hope that is not an omen.

hmm so much for her being started the natural horsemanship way etc etc! Have you rung her previous owner and asked her why she felt the need to lie to you so much, you must be furious!

God you must be the vets best friend at the moment.

I feel more of a muppet to be honest! But yes I do feel angry that I was lied to.

On the plus side (if there is one), spoke to the incurence company and she will be covered for the op. Vet did say I could leave it and just use her as a broodmare, but it would get worse and I wouldn't want her to be in pain.

Its possible she will always be unlevel, but at least not in any pain. We wont sell her now and will use her as a hack or maybe broodmare depending on how she gets on.

Mind you she nearly double barrelled me when I was putting her tail bandage on this morning! She lifted her leg at me so I told her off (a loud "no" and tap on the bum) and she missed getting me in the chest by about 6 inches. Cowbag! She doesnt get the benefit of being hormaonal now so she got a whallop.

Hmm well she cant be in that much pain LOL if she can still do that! she is a stroppy one!

At least the vet reckons she will be fine after the op, and super news abut the insurance covering it.

I wonder if she has some kind of hormonal imbalance, she seems to try and take your head off over the slightest thing, PMT or what!

Maybe get someone to hold her and back her up to the stable door, or stand on other side to do her tail bandage, at least that way she will only make herself sore if she kicks out. Mares eh!
