Ha, yeah, true, but I have been here since I was 1, so guess that helps. Will say that I am moving back to the States later in the year to do an MA in History, in the South.....It is a great college, so should go well!

Damn, need to find another aspect to 'discuss' here. Really, can you please JM go back to my original point on why you don't like the royal family, and the problem with them being Germanic-Greco (Greek!?) - Hungarian? Then I will let lie....:-)

I don't do religion, its for one of my courses, the end of the Byzantine Empire. I will google, sure I can find some necessary drivel on there that should help my argument (somehow I ended up being on the losing team of the Orthodox, don't know how that happened).

i'm all sure we are proud? of our blood lines...mine is irish/breton-irish.. what i cant be doing with is the "be patriotic.." to who...?? britain is/has never been "british..."..

I think it was just bluntly put, and not in the world's best place (lots of people not happy with Harry saga etc). As a yank, I am in no way patriotic, but I understand patriotism - saying that, I would never be able to lay down my own life for the States, I don't understand it, but I have great respect for those who do.

In what way has Britain never been British ? (I suppose 1066...erm....yeah, various other times...) I think that patriotism really arose from the British Empire. If you have a vast Empire, of course you are going to be proud, and I think that is what people try to emulate?

Rude yes, un-educated it seems not...semi-illiterate...I suppose we all can be, but I have been in essay mode, and therefore have been using my 'bestest' grammar and 'stoopidly' long words! Thanks for your response on Royal Family, everyone is entitled to their opinions and this is a country of free speech (thank god), and I like being able to question people. I wouldn't do it in person though (wimpy...)

i cant apologise if folk find me rude, thats just me...but i am certainly not semi-iliterate, (although my spelling is as bad as my local GP'S!) no it wasn't you! A ....or un educated and i REALLY enjoy learning....

As for questioning folk in person..i'm NOT scary, just say what i think/feel...i LOVE meeting folk and having a damned good chat.

Ok, back to topic....seems that Harry is now off on a holiday anyway with Chelsey, but did a good job out there, and apparently lots of the squaddies didn't even know who he was (by his call name!)

Ha, at least I wasn't too rude then! I think history is possibly the best thing ever (erm....I am a student of it...) and it really gets my goat when people really have little understanding! Its probably very nice being able to do differentiation, but when you are having a good debate, how, really, is that going to help!

I think I may have said uneducated (or introverted....) Oh well.

I agree. There's good and bad in every nation including us Brits. I travel to USA most years and have some good friends there. Must say we have always been given the warmest welcome.
 
I have not really read any reply but the OP but I just have to wonder one thing

WHY would they allow such a high profile individual to go? How could this cover not be blown somehow? These people cannot escape the media anywhere they go? In the case of the royal family this is mainly due to the UK publics obsession with them and their every move. I just think it was silly in the first place.

I have to commend his courage though. He must have been aware of just how vulnerable he was and what a prime target he could have been. I also commend the royal family for allowing it in the first place. I just think it was destined to end in a media frenzy and not the most strategic of moves.
